Role Summary

  • Take ownership of core gameplay mechanics.
  • Work on the implementation of gameplay features using C++ and Unreal Engine.
  • Collaborate and iterate on new mechanics, handle code reviews, and participate in cross-discipline discussions.
  • Work alongside teams for animation, audio, and VFX.
  • Identify risks and support project planning.
  • Address bespoke frameworks and internal mesh networking.

Role Requirements

  • Rich experience in gameplay programming.
  • Proficiency in C++ and Unreal Engine with a deep understanding of Unreal Actor and Component architecture.
  • Experience with live environment technical aspects, such as multiplayer systems and physics, and sequencer-based workflows.
  • Hands-on experience with profiling using Insights, CSV, and LLM optimisation techniques and experience on various game platforms.
  • Familiarity with Perforce or Git.

We’re looking for a Gameplay Engineer to join our team on a fixed-term contract basis.   

This is an exciting opportunity to make a high-impact contribution, taking ownership of core gameplay mechanics to ensure that the moment-to-moment player experience is polished, responsive, and engaging.  

This is a fixed term contract until November 2026 (we therefore cannot offer sponsorship for this vacancy) 

 Main responsibilities will be: 

  • Implement gameplay features using C++ and Unreal Engine.  
  • Collaborate with design to prototype and iterate on new mechanics.  
  • Debug, optimise, and maintain gameplay systems.  
  • Review code and contribute to technical and cross discipline discussions.  
  • Work closely with animation, audio, and VFX teams.  
  • Identify risks, manage dependencies, and support project planning.  
  • Tackle driven engineering challenges, including bespoke frameworks and internal mesh networking. 

Requirements

Here’s what you’ll need to be considered: 

  • Strong professional experience in gameplay programming. 
  • Proficiency in C++ and Unreal Engine.  
  • Solid understanding of Unreal Actor and Component architecture, including GAS.  
  • Familiarity with replication/networking, multiplayer systems, and physics in live environments.  
  • Knowledge of Sequencer and sequencer-based workflows.  
  • Expertise in profiling using Insights, CSV, and LLM optimisation techniques.  
  • Understanding of Unreal game feature plugins and core engine architecture.  
  • Experience developing for Gen9, Gen8, PC, and mobile platforms.  
  • Experience with gameplay systems (combat, traversal, interactions, AI, narrative).  
  • Ability to collaborate across multidiscipline teams.  
  • Experience with Perforce or Git.
