Your primary responsibility will be overseeing the successful delivery of Project Aranya, a community-focused initiative in India. This involves not just project management, but also technical oversight for community engagement aspects, ensuring Alignment with CCB and VCS standards.

YOUR IMPACT

As Project Manager for Project Aranya, you will play a key role in delivering a high-impact, community-centred climate project in India. You will be accountable for the successful delivery of Phase 1, ensuring activities are delivered on time, within budget and to a high standard.

Alongside project delivery, you will provide technical oversight for all community engagement components, ensuring robust implementation of FPIC, safeguarding, grievance mechanisms and gender-sensitive programming in line with CCB and VCS standards. Working closely with delivery partners, field teams and community stakeholders, you will build strong relationships, manage risks and support effective on-the-ground execution.

This role is ideal for an experienced, hands-on project manager with a strong background in rural development, who is motivated by delivering meaningful climate and community impact in complex environments.

THE ROLE

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Project Management

Delivery: Accountable for ensuring the Phase 1 component of Project Aranya is delivered on time, to a high quality and to budget.

Workplans: Accountable for ensuring that all partners and team members have accurate and up-to-date annual, quarterly, monthly and weekly workplans which ensure delivery of project targets and milestones.

Risk Management: Accountable to ensure all activities have key risks identified, and mitigating actions baked into delivery plans.

Issue Management: Accountable in the management of issues within project delivery, ensuring issue resolution protocols are followed.

Data and Reporting: Accountable for the accurate collection and reporting of all data from Phase 1 activities.

Team Management: Management of 4 – 7 field staff, ensuring an emphasis on staff wellbeing and team cohesion.  

Community Engagement Technical Backstopping

Community Engagement Technical Backstopping: Accountable for ensuring that all community engagement components of the full Project Aranya are implemented at minimum to CCB standards. This includes, but is not limited to, a focus on ensuring a robust FPIC process has taken place, that the grievance redress mechanism is operational and suitable, that safeguarding risks are identified and delivery plans adopted to mitigate them, that gender sensitive programming is mainstreamed into all activities.

Skills Development: Training and coaching project delivery staff on technical aspects of community engagement (FPIC, safeguarding, Grievance Redress Mechanism, participation) in addition to in-field skills including facilitation, negotiation and conflict resolution skills.

Stakeholder Management

Delivery Partners: Be the main point of contact, relationship management, management of delivery, contract management, reporting management,

Community Stakeholders: Develop, sustain and strengthen relationships with key stakeholders at the village and district level who impact the project.

Conflict resolution: Lead on resolution of issues involving project stakeholders.

Carbon Standards

Carbon standards adherence: With support from CIP’s technical team, ensure project delivery for Phase 1 aligns with VCS and CCB standards.

Project Support

Project Support: General support for the project and CIP as directed.

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR

  • Extensive, hands-on experience typically gained through leading multiple large-scale rural development programmes in India, with accountability for delivery, teams and stakeholder relationships, working as a practitioner in rural development in India in a relevant field, i.e. poverty reduction, gender, agriculture, rural development, WaSH, market systems development, agroforestry or any related field.

  • Experience working in a senior position in field implementation, able to confidently build and sustain relationships and resolve conflicts with key stakeholders.

  • Strong Project Management experience, managing complex projects with multiple stakeholders in rural India. Comfortable with Microsoft office suit.

  • Strong experience and technical skills in community engagement, including safeguarding, FPIC.

  • At minimum, a basic understanding of CCB & VCS safeguarding standards.

  • Bachelors degree in Sustainable Development, Agriculture, Economics, Business, Agronomy or another related field.
