Role Summary
- Leading the design and selection of battery systems in UK, Spain, Italy, and Germany.
- Keeping track of technological advancements in battery cell design and development.
- Traveling to manufacturing sites and industry conferences for testing, addressing project issues, and maintaining professional relationships.
- Working closely with other teams to ensure efficiency in the development, construction, and operations process.
Role Requirements
- An engineering or physical science degree with at least 6 years of experience in the energy industry.
- A deep understanding of certain technologies such as inverters and battery cells, electrical power systems.
- Ability to convey complex concepts to non-technical colleagues.
- Openness to occasional travels to sites in the UK, Germany, Italy, Spain, Europe and China.

Key Responsibilities
What you’ll be doing
- Developing conceptual designs for new battery storage systems; short-duration, long-duration and those with more advanced capabilities such as inertia, short-circuit and blackstart services.
- Supporting the tender evaluations for new battery systems
- Assisting the construction team with monitoring the quality of commissioning of new battery sites, including visiting of BESS suppliers for Factory Acceptance Tests
- Leading engagement with BESS suppliers to anticipate new battery designs that will affect how we plan and develop new sites
- Supporting the legal and contractual teams with technical expertise to understand the key contractual risks and avoid contractual disputes
- Developing our in-house approach to long-term battery management to minimise operational risks and optimise battery health
Skills, Knowledge and Expertise
- You like the technical detail and are not afraid to get your teeth in to solving new problems with new technology
- You’re an open, clear communicator who enjoys working collaboratively - there are no ‘lone wolves’ at Field, we’re all in this together
- You’re very organised - you’ll be spinning a few plates at once, so you’ll need to have tried and tested methods for keeping on top of a varied workload at your fingertips
- You’re enthusiastic, curious and knowledgeable about the energy storage industry
- An engineering or physical science degree with at least 6 years’ experience in the energy industry, preferably with experience at an energy equipment manufacturer, energy asset owner or energy design consultancy
- A deep understanding of at least one of the following technologies:
- Inverters
- Battery cells and Battery Management Systems
- HV and MV Electrical power systems
- Experience with power system design or modelling is highly desirable
- Able to communicate complex concepts to non-technical colleagues
- Able to communicate effectively with contractors and suppliers from around the world.
- Willingness to occasionally travel to sites in the UK, Germany, Italy and Spain and battery equipment suppliers in Europe and China
