Overview

Okavango Horse Safaris is looking for a capable and adaptable Camp Operations Manager to support the day-to-day running of a busy safari camp in the Okavango Delta.

This is a hands-on, practical role working closely with the owners and department heads to keep operations running smoothly. You’ll be managing a team of 30–40 staff, hosting up to 12 guests at a time, and helping ensure standards are consistently high across the board.

This role suits someone with a strong leadership background, who is equally comfortable being flexible, thinking on their feet, and working as part of a team.

Key Responsibilities

Team Leadership & Support

* Support and guide a team of 30–40 staff across camp

* Work closely with heads of department to keep things aligned and running smoothly

* Maintain a positive, motivated team environment

Day-to-Day Operations

* Oversee the general running of camp and step in where needed

* Ensure guests receive a high-quality, seamless experience

* Identify issues early and resolve them practically and efficiently

Proactive Management

* Stay ahead of problems rather than reacting to them

* Bring structure where needed, but remain flexible to the realities of camp life

* Help improve how things are done without overcomplicating systems

Logistics & Coordination

* Assist with stock control, ordering, and general logistics

* Ensure camp has what it needs to operate without disruption

Fleet & Equipment

* Oversee basic management of vehicles, boats, and equipment

* Ensure maintenance is being done and issues are addressed early

Horse Department Support

* Horses are managed by the Horse Manager, you do not need to be experienced with horses or able to ride.

* Provide support to ensure the horse team has what they need to operate effectively

Administration

* Keep records, reports, and general admin in good order

* Communicate clearly with ownership on operations and any challenges

Candidate Profile

* Leadership background, ex military or similar

* Experience managing teams in remote or demanding environments

* Practical, hands-on, and solutions-focused

* Flexible and able to adapt quickly as situations change

* Strong people skills – approachable, fair, and good with staff

* Upbeat, positive attitude with good energy in camp

* Enjoys working closely with others and being part of a team

* Organised, but not overly reliant on rigid systems

What We’re Looking For

* Someone who gets stuck in and leads from the front

* A team player who works with others, not over them

* Calm under pressure and good at making things happen

* Able to balance structure with flexibility

Opportunity

A rare chance to live and work in the Okavango Delta, as part of a strong, close-knit team. This role offers a mix of responsibility and lifestyle — with time to enjoy the bush, wildlife, and the unique experience of a working safari camp.
