This is a 6-month fixed-term role, ideal for someone passionate about helping others launch fulfilling careers in tech. At Makers, our learners follow different career journeys, and the Placement team plays a critical role in supporting them through the final and most important stage, launching into a job they love.
As a Placement Coach, your goal is to support learners to successfully complete their placements, demonstrate their skills in a real-world environment, and secure long-term employment, either by completing an apprenticeship or by converting to a permanent role with a hiring partner.
- Connect to our mission - Be excited about our mission at Makers to change lives, and help to create an environment where our team can do their best work and thrive.
- Value Growth - You love learning, are open to new opinions and approaches, and enjoy continuously developing yourself and others.
- Value Joy - You care about others and are able to empathise, communicate effectively, overcome challenges and help create a supportive and joyful place to work.
- Value Trust - You value trust in your working relationships and are able to work in an environment that values transparency, open feedback, clear communication, and challenging the status quo as key foundations.
At Makers, diversity and inclusion are core to our mission. Ensuring our people feel included and valued is critical for us to live the Makers' values: Growth, Trust, and Joy. We are actively working towards fostering a strong culture of belonging for both our students and our people and encourage applications from all backgrounds, abilities, communities, and industries. We see the value behind the new ideas you could bring to help us achieve our mission.
Key Job Responsibilities
- Guide learners from placement through to timely achievement of their apprenticeship, setting clear objectives, conducting regular progress reviews, and collaborating with colleagues and hiring partners to optimise outcomes.
- Liaise regularly with Client Partners and employers to share updates on learner performance, address concerns, and ensure workplace environments remain safe, supportive, and aligned with programme standards.
- Deliver functional skills training where required, including booking exams, assessing speaking and listening components, and providing feedback that supports learner development.
- Support internal quality processes to ensure assessments meet national occupational standards and the expectations of awarding bodies, ESFA and Ofsted (if applicable). Maintain accurate documentation and an audit trail of communications and learner progress.
- Contribute feedback on curriculum delivery and support wider learning goals such as British Values and Prevent. Track and report on learner engagement with this curriculum. Ensure compliance with safeguarding, diversity, and inclusion policies.
- Manage your diary and caseload efficiently to ensure timely reviews and visits. Maintain a record of Continuous Professional Development (CPD) and stay up to date on relevant policies and practices.
We are looking for someone who has
- Proven experience supporting learners in an education, workplace, apprenticeship, or bootcamp-style environment.
- Strong understanding of apprenticeship standards and/or the requirements of awarding bodies, Ofsted, and the ESFA.
- Confident in setting goals, conducting progress reviews, and maintaining accurate learner records.
- Excellent stakeholder management skills – able to build strong relationships with learners, employers, and internal teams.
- Ability to manage a caseload independently and prioritise effectively to meet deadlines.
- A proactive, structured, and solution-oriented approach to keeping learners on track, particularly in remote or hybrid environments
