We are seeking a talented and imaginative Graphic Designer to help bring our brand, stories, and mission to life. From inspiring environmental campaigns to world-class visitor experiences, you'll play a key role in creating engaging visual communications that connect people with nature and encourage positive action.

Working within our Interpretation team, you'll develop creative assets across digital and print platforms, supporting a wide range of projects that promote the Eden Project's educational, environmental, cultural, and commercial activities.

We're looking for a creative thinker with strong technical skills and a passion for purposeful design.

Role Purpose

Undertakes allocated graphic design jobs and projects from concept to installation, producing a wide variety of graphics and signage to facilitate the promotion and running of the Eden Project and effectively communicate Eden’s narrative in an accessible way, contributing to the engagement, enjoyment and understanding of visitors and other specific target audiences.

Key Accountabilities

Works to Eden's Interpretation Strategy, brand guidelines, programme and budget, responding to specific creative and functional briefs from internal and external clients, to generate creative visual designs to a high standard, for print-based and other graphic platforms for the Eden site, exhibits, events, exhibitions, products, promotions and activities. Applies artistic and technical graphic design skills generating images, graphic designs and layouts which articulate and deliver diverse design proposals working to Eden’s brand guidelines. Assists other teams within Eden, providing the technical expertise and creative flair required to augment new features, products, promotions and publications and to refresh existing displays, exhibits and installations. Generates printed graphics using the in-house large format printers, completing print finishing processes such as trimming and mounting before installing printed materials on site. Liaises with external printers, ensuring outsourced print jobs meet the client's required standards and expectations. Monitors and maintains the signage installations across site to ensure the information is up to date, legible and accessible for visitors. Develop bespoke signage using sustainable and site appropriate materials and techniques. Ensures that designs and printed material meet Eden's sustainability standards and work within the Eden brand guidelines.

Demands of the Role

Education & qualifications

Qualified to Bachelor degree level (or equivalent) in Graphic Design, Illustration or another relevant graphic based field.

Knowledge & skills

The jobholder will have several years post qualification experience in a similar role. Having successfully delivered a range of creative projects that have showcased their skills in the use of current creative software, supported by a sound knowledge of typography, visual arts and layout techniques. This will be evidenced by a personal portfolio of accrued design work.

Decision- making

The job holder will be regularly given tasks by the line manager and are expected to manage and prioritise their work to match deadlines as well as make day to day routine decisions using their creative judgement and experience. The results of which are impactful, as their artwork is viewed daily by the public on a large scale. Understands when they need to seek advice from a senior member or their line manager.

Resourcefulness

Showing initiative to actively solve problems for given tasks, the jobholder will generate innovative ideas and creative solutions to meet allocated design briefs and organisational needs. Having the ability to work alone but also to collaborate with colleagues to devise progressive, sustainable and creative ways to improve graphic communication.

People & asset management

Some assistance required to help less experienced staff and apprentices by providing on-the-job training and coaching as required. Shared responsibility for the hardware, software and graphical data assets managed by the team.

Communication and Visitor Experience

The jobholder regularly engages, consults and collaborates with clients from departments across Eden, using their experience and skill in visual techniques to translate the client’s design concepts into tangible and workable proposals. Also liaises with external contacts such as print companies.

Visitors experience the Eden Project through the job holder’s artwork. By providing Eden with a way to communicate its ideas and information directly to the visitors on and off site.

Operational environment

Largely desk based role with occasional requirement for physical activity when installing graphics on site and changing rolls of paper on the large format printer.

Additional features

The jobholder is required to continuously develop their design knowledge and keep abreast of industry trends and software updates.
