We work with local communities, governments, and partners to design, build, and maintain rural transport infrastructure that connect people to education, healthcare, and markets. Our evidence-based approach demonstrates that safe, reliable access unlocks opportunity and drives economic and social development in rural areas.

To expand our impact and strengthen our technical capacity, Fika is establishing a Consultant Roster of qualified professionals across multiple disciplines related to rural access planning, transport infrastructure design and construction, and related sub-sectors. Inclusion in the roster does not guarantee an assignment but ensures that pre-qualified consultants may be rapidly engaged when relevant opportunities arise.

The Fika Consultant Roster serves as a database of pre-screened experts who may be considered for consultancy assignments supporting Fika’s rural transport access projects and programs globally. Consultants may be engaged on short-term or intermittent contracts depending on project needs, subject to funding availability, client approvals, and consultant qualifications.

Areas of expertise that Fika is seeking for our Consultant Roster include, but are not limited to: Rural access and mobility planning, Bridge and rural transport infrastructure design, Construction supervision and quality assurance, Hydrology, geotechnical, and structural engineering, Environmental and social impact assessments for transport sector programs, Sustainability, environmental, and social safeguards for transport sector programs, Monitoring, evaluation, research, and learning (MERL), Capacity strengthening and adult-centered training design and facilitation, Community engagement and participatory planning.

General Duties and Responsibilities include: Providing expert technical input to feasibility studies, design reviews, or infrastructure assessments or assignments, Supporting project planning, implementation, and monitoring activities, Advising on standards, methodologies, and innovations in rural infrastructure delivery, Conducting field assessments, stakeholder consultations, and capacity development or training workshops, Preparing technical reports, manuals, or policy guidance documents, Ensuring that gender equality, environmental and sustainability concerns, safeguarding, and other cross-cutting considerations are integrated into all activities.

Qualifications and Experience: Advanced degree in civil engineering, transport planning, rural development, or related field, Minimum of 5–10 years of relevant professional experience in rural transport infrastructure or related sectors, Demonstrated experience working in rural or remote areas and engaging with local community, government, and private sector stakeholders, Strong analytical, communication, and reporting skills in English; proficiency in other languages is an asset, Commitment to Fika’s mission, values, and ethical standards, including safety, integrity, and inclusion, Ability to work independently, remotely, collaboratively, and across cultures.
