About the role 

The Packaging Manager is responsible for leading and managing all coffee packaging operations within the Roastery, ensuring roasted coffee is packed efficiently, accurately, safely and to the highest quality standards. This role oversees the packaging team, packing equipment, and quality control processes to ensure all finished goods meet specification and customer requirements.

What you'll do

Production & Operations

  • Oversee the day-to-day running of the Packaging Department, ensuring production plans are delivered safely, efficiently, and on time.

  • Coordinate packaging activities and resources to meet customer demand and dispatch requirements.

  • Monitor operational performance, troubleshoot issues, and drive improvements to maximise productivity and minimise downtime.

Team Leadership
  • Lead, coach, and develop the packaging team, creating a positive and high-performing working environment.

  • Support employee development through training, performance management, and regular feedback.

  • Foster strong cross-functional relationships to ensure effective collaboration across production, warehouse, and planning teams.

Equipment & Maintenance
  • Oversee the safe and effective operation of packaging machinery and equipment.

  • Work closely with maintenance teams and suppliers to optimise equipment performance, reliability, and uptime.

  • Identify and implement improvements that enhance machine efficiency and productivity.

Quality & Compliance
  • Ensure all products are packed to the highest quality standards and in line with customer specifications.

  • Maintain compliance with food safety, quality, and regulatory requirements, including HACCP standards.

  • Support audits, investigations, and corrective actions to continually improve packaging quality and compliance.

Health, Safety & Environment
  • Champion a strong health and safety culture, ensuring safe working practices are followed at all times.

  • Ensure compliance with company policies, risk assessments, and relevant legislation.

  • Maintain high standards of housekeeping and promote a safe, organised production environment.

Inventory & Materials Management
  • Manage packaging materials and stock levels to ensure uninterrupted production.

  • Work collaboratively with warehouse and planning teams to maintain inventory accuracy and minimise waste.

  • Monitor material usage and support effective stock control processes.

Continuous Improvement
  • Identify and implement initiatives that improve productivity, quality, efficiency, and cost performance.

  • Use operational data and KPIs to drive performance improvements and informed decision-making.

  • Support projects focused on automation, process optimisation, and future capacity growth.

Who you are

Skills & Experience

  • Proven experience in a packaging, production, or manufacturing management role, ideally within the food, beverage, coffee, or FMCG sector.

  • Experience managing packaging operations in a high-volume production environment.

  • Demonstrated ability to lead, motivate, and develop packaging teams to achieve operational targets.

  • Experience with production planning, scheduling, and resource management to meet customer demand and service requirements.

  • Strong understanding of quality assurance, food safety, and GMP (Good Manufacturing Practice) standards.

  • Experience monitoring and improving KPIs including productivity, waste, labour efficiency, downtime, and service levels.

  • Proven track record of implementing continuous improvement initiatives to enhance efficiency and reduce costs.

  • Experience managing stock control, packaging materials, and inventory accuracy.
