Barge East & Skuna Boats is a young, successful start-up business moving to scale up and grow to a profitable medium-sized business. Barge East is a unique new bar & restaurant on a 118-year-old Dutch barge on the canal in Hackney Wick overlooking the beautiful London skyline, whilst Skuna Boats offers unique boating experiences through our Hot Tub & BBQ boats.
Role Summary
- Manage everything from payroll to reporting, working closely with our external accountants and ensuring our margins stay healthy.
- Manage end-to-end payroll for our team, maintain financial records, and produce financial reports for the founders.
- Act as the main contact for external accountants and ensure smooth year-end processes.
- Carry out routine stock checks, analyze COGS, and flag areas for margin improvement.
Role Requirements
- Experience in an SME finance environment; hospitality or leisure sector experience is a bonus.
- Highly organized, proactive, and able to manage your own workload.
- Strong understanding of payroll software and accounting systems, e.g., Xero.
- Strong communication skills to translate financial data into business advice.

With a combined team of around 60-70 people, we are a fast-paced, growing business. We are looking for an experienced, commercially minded Finance Manager to take ownership of our day-to-day finances and help ensure our continued profitability. The Role Reporting directly to the founders, you will be the financial engine of the business. You will manage everything from payroll to reporting, working closely with our external accountants and ensuring our margins stay healthy. Key Responsibilities Payroll: Manage end-to-end payroll for our team of 60-70 staff, handling variable hours, rotas, and hospitality specific complexities. Bookkeeping: Maintain accurate, up-to-date daily financial records across both businesses. Reporting: Produce monthly management accounts, cash flow forecasts, and financial reports for the founders. Accountant Liaison: Act as the primary point of contact for our external accountants, ensuring a smooth year-end process. Commercial & Profitability: Carry out routine stock checks (F&B and leisure supplies), analyze cost of goods sold (COGS), and proactively flag areas where we can improve margins and profitability. About You Experienced in an SME finance environment (hospitality or leisure sector experience is a massive bonus). Highly organized, proactive, and comfortable managing your own workload. Strong understanding of payroll software and accounting systems (e.g., Xero). A strong communicator who can translate financial data into clear business advice.
