Summary The 80,000 Hours Podcast aims to help the world safely navigate the transition to transformative AI. Our in-depth interviews reach tens of thousands of people, and we regularly hear from listeners in government and at leading AI companies who find them useful for their work. Our hosts' and existing producers' time is currently the biggest bottleneck on how much we can produce and how good it can be. A great producer would directly increase the quantity and quality of episodes we can make. Location: London, the San Francisco Bay Area, Washington DC, or remote. Salary: Will vary based on skills, experience, and location, with indicative ranges of £93,000–£113,000 for candidates in London, $151,000–$184,000 in San Francisco, $133,000–$161,000 in DC, $116,000–$141,000 for US-based remote candidates, and $105,000–$128,000 for remote candidates elsewhere. To apply , please complete this application form by 11 PM BST on 28th August 2026 . Applications will be assessed on a rolling basis, so we recommend applying early. We have two other openings you may be interested in: Production Coordinator / Associate and Special Projects Associate / Analyst . You can apply to multiple of these roles if you think you’d be a good fit for them - applications will be considered independently, though we’ll do our best to consolidate our communications about progress. The team and role You'd join the 80,000 Hours Studio team (formerly the Podcast team), helping our four hosts make more and better episodes focused primarily on transitioning to a world with transformative AI. We'd be excited about a range of different profiles for this role, from someone deeply immersed in the AI space with strong content judgement to someone who’s spent their career in media/content and is interested in pivoting to AI-focused comms. If you fit anywhere on that spectrum, we'd love to hear from you. You'd support episodes from conception through to release. Your core responsibilities would likely include: Helping hosts prepare for interviews by conducting background research, generating and refining interview questions, and helping structure conversations to ensure they're informative and engaging Assisting with scripting for video essays Content-level editing: reviewing recorded interviews and suggesting cuts, reordering segments, and ensuring episodes are clear and compelling Launch strategy and execution: selecting engaging episode titles and thumbnails, crafting compelling cold opens and promotional materials to attract and retain audience attention, writing episode descriptions and social media copy Monitoring episode performance , both immediately post-launch (e.g. iterating on thumbnails) and in the following week, and incorporating findings and feedback into future projects Depending on your strengths and interests, you will likely also do some of the following: Track developments in AI capabilities , safety research, policy, and governance to identify important and/or timely topics for the podcast to cover Identify potential guests who could speak authoritatively on priority topics, conducting preliminary research and outreach, and assessing fit for the show Scope out and experiment with new content formats with hosts Draft newsletter content or Substack posts to accompany episodes Sit in on episode recordings to provide live guidance and feedback to hosts Help establish production systems and workflows as the team scales Represent the podcast at conferences or in relevant communities The role will be managed by Eve McCormick (Chief of Staff for the Studio Team). Who we're looking for We're looking for people who: Are strongly impact-focused: your content instincts point at what will actually create impact in the world, not just what will perform well Have good instincts for modelling audiences , especially our key target audiences (including staff at frontier AI companies and people working in AI policy) Consume a lot of audio or video podcasts — or, secondarily, Substacks, AI/effective altruism Twitter/X, or video clips Actively engage with AI/artificial general intelligence (AGI) developments: you follow the field, take the implications seriously, and want to contribute to better outcomes Are well-organised: you can independently manage juggling multiple podcast projects at once without much oversight Are willing to take an experimental approach , changing plans in response to what seems to achieve our goals best Enjoy working across different levels , from strategy to execution Communicate clearly , making information easy for others to understand and act on. You're comfortable discussing uncertainties in decision-making and naturally anticipate questions others might have. Previous experience It’s likely to be beneficial for this role if you have experience with one or more of: Journalism Content creation , whether text, video, or audio Content marketing Social media Communications / PR If you don’t have formal experience in any of these areas, but consume a lot of content and have opinions about it, we would also love to hear from you. Logistics This is a full-time role. We’re open both to candidates who could work in-person from our London office or who would work remotely in the UK, US or elsewhere. We can support both UK and US visa sponsorship, but we cannot guarantee US visa applications will be successful.
