Summary The 80,000 Hours Podcast aims to help the world safely navigate a transition to increasingly powerful AI systems. Our in-depth interviews reach tens of thousands of people, and we regularly hear from listeners in government and at leading AI companies who find them useful for their work. As we increase how much we publish, coordinating our editing and production process is becoming a bigger job. This role would free up significant capacity on the team and make our whole production pipeline more reliable. Note: this role is part of a broader hiring round, and we'll only make a hire here if we find someone who'd be a particularly strong fit. Location: London strongly preferred. At minimum, you'd need to work from our London studio regularly (at least once a week), since a significant part of the role involves in-person recording support. Salary: Will vary based on skills and experience, with indicative ranges of £78,000–£84,000 for candidates in London and £67,000–£73,000 for UK-based remote candidates commuting to London regularly. To apply , please complete this application form by 11 PM BST on 28th August 2026 . Applications will be assessed on a rolling basis, so we recommend applying early. We have two other openings you may be interested in: Producer and Special Projects Associate / Analyst . You can apply to multiple of these roles if you think you’d be a good fit for them - applications will be considered independently, though we’ll do our best to consolidate our communications about progress. The team and role You'd join the 80,000 Hours Studio team (formerly the Podcast team), helping run the production side of the podcast. You’d be coordinating our editing pipeline, keeping our systems running smoothly, and providing technical support for recordings. You'd work closely with Dominic, who currently oversees our technical production process. Your responsibilities would likely include: Editing coordination and capacity planning: the core of the role. Assigning episodes to editors, tracking contractor capacity, and keeping the pipeline moving. Maintaining and refining our processes: e.g. keeping our technical tracking systems tuned and up to date. Quality control: reviewing video edits against our house standard. File management: keeping our recording and project files organised and reliable. Backup editing capacity: stepping in on editing tasks directly when needed, e.g. to cover contractor gaps or hit a tight release deadline. Tech support for recordings: running pre-recording tech calls with guests, supporting remote recordings, and providing in-person technical support in our London studio. Over time, you might also take on onboarding new editors, assessing and hiring contractors, and sitting in on recordings to give performance and content feedback when needed. The role will be managed by Dominic Armstrong (Production Coordinator) or Eve McCormick (Chief of Staff for the Studio Team). Who we're looking for You might be suited to this role if you: Are systems-oriented : you’re happy to take on file management, tracking systems, and other unglamorous-but-important work. Are optimisation-minded : you enjoy keeping systems well-tuned, not just building new ones. Communicate clearly , making information easy for others to understand and act on. You're comfortable discussing uncertainties in decision-making and naturally anticipate questions others might have. Have good people skills : much of this role involves working with contractors, guests, and hosts, and building good working relationships with them. Are highly organised : you can track moving pieces across multiple projects at once. Are willing to get familiar with our tools and systems (such as our studio kit, file formats and production processes) The following would also be advantages, but please don’t feel put off from applying for the role if you’re not yet skilled in these areas but would be excited to learn. Editing and QC ability : you can competently edit and quality-check video to a high standard (as backup capacity rather than your primary output), and understand production processes in the weeds. A/V tech troubleshooting ability Content taste : instincts for what makes an episode work would be useful for the feedback side of the role. Previous experience We don't have a fixed picture of who's right for this. Backgrounds that could fit include: Operations roles, especially in media Product management Project management Production management in video, film, or media Or none of the above — if you've shown you can just make things work, we want to hear from you. Logistics This is a full-time role, ideally based in London, UK. We can sponsor UK visas in most cases. We'd also consider UK-based remote candidates able to work from our London office at least once a week. The start date for this role is flexible. Ideally, our chosen candidate would start as soon as possible. Salary and benefits The salary will vary based on skills and experience, but to give a rough sense, we expect salaries to be between £78,000–£84,000 for candidates in London and £67,000–£73,000 for UK-based remote candidates commuting to London regularly. Our UK benefits include: 25 days of paid holiday, plus public holidays Private medical insurance Long-term disability insurance Pension scheme / retirement plan with employer contributions Up to 14 weeks of fully paid parental leave and childcare allowance for children under five £5,000 annual mental health support allowance £5,000 annual self-development budget The option to use 10% of your time for self-development Gym, shower facilities, and unlimited free food provided at our London office How to apply To apply , please complete this application form by 11 PM BST on 28th August 2026 . Applications will be assessed on a rolling basis, so we recommend applying early. The application process will vary depending on the candidate and role, but is likely to include 1–3 written work tests, an interview, and an in-person multi-day assessment. We offer payment for work tests and trials, conditional on your location and right to work in the UK. We're aware that factors like gender, race, and socioeconomic background can affect people's willingness to apply for roles for which they meet many but not all the suggested attributes, and would especially like to encourage people from underrepresented backgrounds to apply, even if you don't meet all the suggested criteria.
