Summary The 80,000 Hours Podcast aims to help the world safely navigate the transition to transformative AI. Our in-depth interviews reach tens of thousands of people, and we regularly hear from listeners in government and at leading AI companies who find them useful for their work. There's a long list of projects we think would make our content more useful and reach more people, but which we don't currently have the capacity to take on. This role exists to change that. Location: London, the San Francisco Bay Area, Washington DC, or remote. Salary: Will vary based on skills, experience, and location, with indicative ranges of £78,000–£101,000 for candidates in London, $126,000–$163,000 in San Francisco, $111,000–$144,000 in DC, $97,000–$125,000 for US-based remote candidates, and $88,000–$114,000 for remote candidates elsewhere. To apply , please complete this application form by 11 PM BST on 28th August 2026 . Applications will be assessed on a rolling basis, so we recommend applying early. We have two other openings you may be interested in: Producer and Production Coordinator / Associate . You can apply to multiple of these roles if you think you’d be a good fit for them - applications will be considered independently, though we’ll do our best to consolidate our communications about progress. The team and role You'd join the 80,000 Hours Studio team (formerly the Podcast team), devising plans for and driving forward key projects. This is the important work that currently falls between the cracks because everyone's focused on making episodes. You'd take ownership of projects such as: Evaluating the success of our episodes as we explore different formats. For example: taking an episode ahead of release, working out with hosts and producers what impact assessment makes sense for it, and then carrying that out — whether that's tracking particular metrics or getting on calls with audience members for feedback. Project managing written pieces derived from episodes for our Substack , potentially including hiring contract writers, coordinating with them on focus and framing, and editing their work. Helping us address strategic questions e.g. working out how we should approach posting on Chinese social media, gathering the relevant information, making a recommendation, and then implementing it. Scoping out potential new episode formats e.g. "should we do explainer episodes?" — getting input from potential listeners, working out what a first experiment would look like, and planning it with hosts and producers. Guest triage and tracking: working with hosts and producers to sort, prioritise, and follow up on guest suggestions; responding to requests to appear on the podcast; and improving our systems for tracking potential guests. Owning the design and structure of our webpages: deciding which episodes to feature, sourcing endorsements, deciding what appears where, and liaising with our web team to implement changes. If you’re interested and a good fit, we might also explore you taking on some episode production tasks, such as fact-checking episode scripts or brainstorming titles and thumbnails. The role will be managed by Eve McCormick (Chief of Staff for the Studio Team). Who we're looking for We're looking for someone who: Can drive projects forward independently: scoping ambiguous problems, making plans, and executing without much oversight. Have good judgement and prioritisation: you can work out which version of a project matters most and why, and make sensible prioritisation calls under uncertainty. Communicates clearly , making information easy for others to understand and act on. You're comfortable discussing uncertainties in decision-making and naturally anticipate questions others might have. Is organised and reliable: you'll be juggling several workstreams at once without dropping balls. Takes AI development and its implications seriously: you don't need to be an expert, but you should be interested in the space and motivated to learn about our audiences’ preferences and behaviours (including people working on and governing frontier AI). Is comfortable with ambiguity and variety: this role will evolve based on what the team most needs. You're willing to take an experimental approach, changing plans in response to what seems to achieve our goals best. Enjoys working across different levels , from strategy to execution. Logistics This is a full-time role. We’re open both to candidates who could work in-person from our London office or who would work remotely in the UK, US or elsewhere. We can support both UK and US visa sponsorship, but we cannot guarantee US visa applications will be successful. You can read more about the US visa types we can sponsor here , and make a call on whether you’d still like to apply if that is your only location option. Salary and benefits The salary will vary based on skills, experience, and location, but to give a rough sense, we expect salaries to be between £78,000–£101,000 for candidates in London, $126,000–$163,000 in San Francisco, $111,000–$144,000 in DC, $97,000–$125,000 for US-based remote candidates, and $88,000–$114,000 for remote candidates elsewhere. Our UK benefits include: 25 days of paid holiday, plus public holidays Private medical insurance Long-term disability insurance Pension scheme / retirement plan with employer contributions Up to 14 weeks of fully paid parental leave and childcare allowance for children under five £5,000 annual mental health support allowance £5,000 annual self-development budget The option to use 10% of your time for self-development Gym, shower facilities, and unlimited free food provided at our London office We provide similar/equivalent benefits for staff working from other locations. How to apply To apply , please complete this application form by 11 PM BST on 28th August 2026 . Applications will be assessed on a rolling basis, so we recommend applying early. The application process will vary depending on the candidate and role, but is likely to include 1–3 written work tests, an interview, and an in-person multi-day assessment. We offer payment for work tests and trials, conditional on your location and right to work in the UK. We're aware that factors like gender, race, and socioeconomic background can affect people's willingness to apply for roles for which they meet many but not all the suggested attributes, and would especially like to encourage people from underrepresented backgrounds to apply, even if you don't meet all the suggested criteria.
