About Be the Business
Be the Business (BtB) is an independent, purpose-driven charity focused on helping the UK’s small and medium-sized businesses increase their productivity.
We work with business leaders, major employers, government and leading universities to tackle the barriers that prevent SMEs from performing at their best — from strengthening leadership and management capability to accelerating the adoption of AI and new technology. We bring together insight and expertise from across the business community and turn what works into practical support that SME leaders can use in their businesses.
We’re a small, collaborative and ambitious team where everyone has the opportunity to make a big impact. Our work is practical, fast-moving and varied, and we give people the freedom and responsibility to shape ideas, build partnerships and turn them into programmes that make a real difference to businesses across the UK.
The role
We're looking for a highly organised, proactive and people-focused Community Coordinator to support the day-to-day running of our SME communities.
You'll be responsible for keeping our small business community activity running smoothly, ensuring members receive a great experience and helping turn plans into action.
You'll manage community communications, support outreach and recruitment, coordinate events and activities, maintain community records, and act as a key point of contact for members and stakeholders. This role would suit someone who enjoys organising projects, communicating with people, solving problems and making sure nothing falls through the cracks.
Key responsibilities

• Manage the community inbox and respond to member enquiries in a timely and professional manner.
• Act as a first point of contact for community members and participants.
• Draft and send community emails, newsletters, reminders and updates.
• Welcome new members and help them make the most of the community.
• Send and coordinate communications through channels including email, WhatsApp and online community platforms.
• Escalate complex or sensitive enquiries where appropriate.
• Build positive relationships with community members and encourage participation.
Community activity and event coordination:
• Support the planning and delivery of online and in-person community events.
• Create and manage Eventbrite pages and registrations.
• Coordinate attendee communications, including invitations, joining instructions and follow-up emails.
• Liaise with speakers, partners, venues and suppliers.
• Host online community sessions, including welcoming attendees, introducing speakers and managing logistics.
• Ensure events run smoothly and deliver an excellent participant experience.
• Maintain a calendar of community activity and key milestones.
Outreach and recruitment support:
• Research and identify relevant SMEs, business leaders and stakeholders.
• Support community recruitment campaigns and event promotion.
• Send outreach communications and follow up with prospective members.
• Track outreach activity, responses and recruitment performance.
Digital content and website updates:
• Update community webpages and event listings.
• Upload and maintain community resources and content.
• Draft and schedule basic social media content to promote events and community activity.
• Ensure online information is accurate, up to date and engaging.
Community operations and administration:
• Keep CRM systems, trackers and databases up to date.
• Support reporting on community participation, recruitment and engagement.
• Coordinate surveys and feedback collection.
• Support continuous improvement of community processes and operations.
What success looks like
• You’ll grow participation across our community events and activities, increasing member numbers and engagement.
• Community members will have a consistent, high-quality experience.
• You’ll build efficient systems and processes that makes running community activity seamless.
• You’ll play a key role in supporting our community recruitment and growth targets.
• You’ll become a trusted point of contact for members and stakeholders.
Essential skills and experience
• Excellent organisational and administrative skills.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities effectively.
• Confidence communicating with senior business leaders and stakeholders.
• Strong attention to detail and the ability to work independently.
• Experience coordinating events, projects, communities or customer-facing activities.
• Comfort using digital tools such as Microsoft Office, Teams, Eventbrite and CRM systems.
• A proactive, solutions-focused approach and willingness to get stuck in.
