Safety and Regulatory Compliance Lead

Rivan Industries (Rivan.com) is a synthetic fuel company designed to decarbonise heavy industry. We aim to make synthetic fuel cheaper than fossil fuels and sustain life on Earth by keeping the CO2 locked underground. We design and manufacture modular synthetic fuel plants consisting of a DAC system, an Alkaline Electrolyser, and a Sabatier Reactor, vertically integrating with off-grid DC solar and the European gas-grid. We’ve recently deployed the UK’s largest synthetic fuel plant and are planning to 1000x this scale in the next 2 years. We’re looking for a Safety and Regulatory Compliance Lead as we continue to expand into our new 60,000 sq ft manufacturing and R&D facility in London, followed by further expansion over the next 12 months, whilst simultaneously deploying our hardware at project sites. This is someone who has a deep understanding of the regulatory compliance relating to manufacture, and deployment of cutting edge synthetic gas producing systems. The role will steer the company through the regulatory framework necessary for safe, and compliant roll out of thousands of systems. The role: Oversee Regulatory Compliance of New, and Existing Systems Involvement with R&D teams at the design stage to steer system compliance from inception, through to commissioned continually operating systems. Scoping, writing, and documenting equipment technical files for CE compliance. Experience with ATEX, DSEAR, PED, PSSR, and LVD necessary. We need someone who knows, and can efficiently seek out the applicable regulations and standards, and provide clear instructions on how they can be adhered to. Seek out, establish, and maintain a Quality Assurance Notification (QAN) certification, and welding quality certification, working alongside the Quality team. Manage Compliance of Existing, and Future Deployment Sites Compliance doesn’t end when the system ships out from the factory, this role will require the assurance of compliance of systems once they’ve been shipped. Directing compliance during install, and setting out a framework to maintain system compliance over for the lifetime of the system. Experience with COMAH, PUWER, COSHH, Environmental Permitting Regulations, Gas Safety Management important in this role. Managing Compliance of R&D Departments Teams at Rivan move at lightning speed, creating test rigs, experimental assemblies, and using a vast amount of equipment to achieve this. Experience relating to a wide variety of regulatory structures (COSHH, LOLER, PUWER for example) is a must to help guide teams to develop safe and compliant systems. The role will necessitate a streamlined process to assist R&D teams to achieve compliance. Establish and Maintain Registry of Compliance Across Evolution of Systems Designs are always changing, and the systems are constantly being improved. It is certain that a system that ships one month, will have variations later in the year. It’s essential in this role to create and manage some form of registry to track of compliance as systems develop. A system serial number should unlock the full compliance documentation tailored to the revision of the system. Oversee General Safety of Developed Systems The role does not stop at producing a technical file, developing a structure relating to safety of the systems throughout their lifecycle is essential. You will work closely with a SHEQ lead to undertake these activities. The role will report directly to the Manufacturing Director. Core skills: 5+ years of experience as a Compliance Engineer, or similar role Deep understanding of CE marking, Machinery Directive, Pressure Equipment Directive, and the Low Voltage Directive.
