About Nous Nous is an AI agent that takes some of the load of life; making good decisions and acting for our users in areas where they’re not the experts or aren’t paying enough attention. We've started with optimising bills, where we're already saving households thousands, and are now expanding into new categories. Similar to how Amazon picked books as its first category and grew from there. We’re growing fast, and it's working. 20x YoY growth makes us one of the fastest scaling startups in the UK. And NPS of +70 (higher than Apple) shows that our users love it. We've just launched two more novel new products (on top of our existing bill optimisation). Insurance: we're the first to get the regulatory approval and build the tech to actually do the full insurance discovery and purchase journey as an agent for the user (not just give them a link to the best deal). Subscription management: lots of companies use Open Banking to draw pretty graphs – we're the first to use it to actively save people money starting by cancelling unwanted subscriptions for them. It would be easy to look at this and think we've got it all figured out. But we've only scratched the surface; our ambitions are SO much higher. We’re building a new category of product which is hard, so we’ve stacked the deck in our favour: an experienced founding team with multiple exits, and investors including the founders of Monzo, Wise, Booking.com, lastminute.com, Onfido, Funding Circle, Tide, Habito and more. Still - the problems we’re solving are hard. ‘Talk is cheap’ applies to agents too. To have REAL impact, agents need to break out of the sandbox and take action in the real world where there are consequences. A note on product @ Nous Before getting into the role, it’s worth explaining what “the product” actually is at Nous. The product includes the web application that guides our users through the complex world of bills and household admin and acts as their interface to our management service, as well as all the behind the scenes capabilities needed to orchestrate and deliver that service - actually saving our users money and time. We’ve built a set of powerful capabilities that let us run and improve the service efficiently at scale: agentic communication, multimodal GenAI data extraction, orchestration for long-running operational processes, recommendations, notifications, and more. We compose these into executable workflows that deliver real outcomes for members — like switching someone to a better energy deal without the hassle. We organise around small product squads (around 5–7 people) with a single shared objective; shipping and learning fast. The role We’re looking for a Product Engineer to join our team, who wants to weaponise their skills for good. We need you to help us build a world-class product that will be regularly used by millions of people across the UK. The product includes the web application that guides our users through the complex world of bills and household admin and acts as their interface to our management service, as well as all the behind the scenes capabilities needed to orchestrate and deliver that service - actually saving our users money and time. As a product engineer, we empower you with context to enable fast iterations, end-to-end ownership and lots of agency. You’ll be a hands-on technical leader on some of the highest-leverage areas of our codebase, from building out agentic capabilities to scaling our service logic. Although our stack is constantly evolving (and you can help shape that), here’s a current snapshot: Full-stack TypeScript (all the way from the database to the client), React, Postgres, and Temporal for long-running orchestration. Infra: AWS, Terraform, strong observability via Sentry and Datadog (full-stack, not just logs). Data: we lean heavily on Snowflake, Omni, dbt, Fivetran, Amplitude and Segment — and we’ve even built some of our own tooling to understand how well we’re helping our members. And we use Github, Linear, Graphite, and Blacksmith every day. We choose the best tool for the job, and don’t obsess around specific technologies. You’ll report directly to the CTO, so you’ll be in the room for key architectural and product decisions. We’re deliberately light on layers of management: exceptional individual contributors shape direction by solving hard problems. As part of our cross functional team, you will: Take the lead on projects within a high-context engineering team. Actively contribute to product strategy and wider company goals, not just implementation details. Help shape how our engineering team grows and the technology we use. Promote best practices and a collaborative environment. Develop across the stack, building and operating both backend and frontend services, including resilient and robust integrations with third-party APIs. You think like a PM, not “just” as an engineer You’re happiest when you own a problem end-to-end: from a fuzzy user pain (“this renewal letter makes no sense”) through to a shipped solution and the numbers that show it worked. You naturally ask “what’s the smallest thing we can ship to learn?” instead of waiting for a perfect spec. You care about UX, copy and flow as much as correctness, because you’ve seen that a small wording change can make the difference between action and confusion. You’re a pragmatic full-stack builder You’re comfortable working across the stack in modern Typescript, building robust backend services (Node/GraphQL/Prisma or similar) and polished UIs in React (or another modern framework). You understand data flows and state management in web apps, and you’ve felt the pain when they’re not designed well. You write clean, practical code that other people can understand and extend. You know when to abstract, and when to keep it brutally simple to go fast. You bias to action and learn from reality Ambiguity energises you. You can take a fuzzy problem, slice it into sensible bets and ship something real in days, not months. You treat production as your ultimate feedback loop. Logs, dashboards and user behaviour are how you decide what to do next. You’re happy to delete your own code when reality disagrees with your idea. You make the people around you better You enjoy explaining complex ideas simply, pairing on gnarly problems and leaving things clearer than you found them. You’re open, direct and kind: you can disagree without drama, and you care more about the right outcome than being right. Over time, you want to grow your scope: shaping the stack, mentoring others and helping raise the bar for how we build product. Nice to have (but not required) You don’t need to tick every box, but it’s a bonus if you have experience with the following: Applying GenAI in very practical, user-facing ways, at the bleeding edge of the technology where you have to innovate rather than imitate existing solutions. Orchestrating long-running workflows and complex integrations with third-party APIs. Working with data pipelines and analytics to uncover new ways to save our members money and time.
