  • We’re seeking a Head of Strategy & Operations; this is a leadership role on the founding team of a well-resourced, fast-moving nonprofit start-up, at the centre of the AI safety ecosystem.
  • The successful candidate will be a high-performing generalist, who is prepared to put significant effort into building an elite organisation that achieves international recognition and long-lasting impact.

About us:

  • Generality Labs is a nonprofit R&D lab based in London.
  • We were founded in 2026, spinning off from Arcadia Impact with $4.4M in seed funding.
  • Our goal is to support the field of AI in accurately evaluating risks and mitigations.
  • We’re a team of 2 cofounders, and 5+ contractors who have previously worked at places like METR, CERN and Anthropic.
  • Our flagship product, Inspect Evals, is world-leading and globally recognised. It is used extensively across the field, including by organisations such as NIST, Hugging Face, Epoch AI, and the EU AI Office.
  • We are specialists in evaluating the tools used for measuring AI risks, and we’ve begun publishing audits that hold the field accountable and educate researchers on best practices.

Position description:

Overview: we’re looking for a generalist with a “founder” mindset, ideally with experience working in a high-performance startup environment, and with a mix of technical, commercial, operations, and management experience.

Responsibilities:

  • This role will involve all types of work: IT, finance, marketing, recruitment, compliance, onboarding contractors, project/product management - functions which the CEO currently performs, but which can ideally be delegated to expand leadership capacity.
  • You will also:
  • Own key projects, including establishing a new legal entity and spinning off from our current parent organisation
  • Refine our organisational systems, either automating or removing BAU processes which introduce friction
  • As the organisation grows, the HSO can take on more leadership responsibilities or specialise in a particular area of interest.

You’re a great fit for this role if:

  • You enjoy working hard, and you work harder than anyone else you’ve met.
  • You can learn and do anything to solve a problem. You could be a theoretical physicist or a diesel mechanic if you wanted to be. Nothing is above or beneath you.
  • You pride yourself on getting things right the first time, and learn quickly from mistakes.
  • You have a growth mentality. You are obsessed with becoming the best and achieving your potential.
  • You have experience managing a team, and you know how to motivate staff and manage projects.

You’re an excellent fit for this role if you also:

  • Have a STEM background and research experience (e.g. PhD or similar)
  • Have experience as a software engineer or technical product manager
  • Previously founded a start-up and have experience building a product, team and sales pipeline from scratch
  • Have strong visual design skills

Other details:

We’re able to sponsor visas, and we’re open to discussing relocation packages and support.
