What will you be doing?
You’ll take ownership of the experience of Vemoye’s growing Diaspora Network, helping turn almost 150 members into an engaged community of professionals who are ready to contribute their expertise to education organisations in Nigeria.
Working closely with the founder, you’ll have the freedom to shape what an engaging, valuable community looks like.
Your key responsibilities will include:
- Shape the community experience: Develop a simple engagement strategy and establish a regular rhythm of communications, conversations and activities that keep members connected to Vemoye and each other.
- Curate events and masterclasses: Build a programme of relevant, high-quality virtual masterclasses and networking opportunities. You’ll research topics, identify and approach speakers, coordinate sessions and help develop future in-person events such as roundtables and dinners.
- Create engaging community communications: Produce regular updates that members actually want to read, including upcoming opportunities, events, member stories, discussion prompts and relevant content.
- Understand our members: Learn more about the skills, expertise and interests within the network so we can create relevant programming and connect the right people with future opportunities.
- Prepare members for impact: Help build excitement and understanding ahead of the launch of our pro bono consulting opportunities, ensuring members understand how their professional expertise can help education organisations in Nigeria scale.
- Build for the future: Test what works, gather member feedback and create a repeatable community and events framework that Vemoye can continue to grow.
This is an opportunity to shape a professional community at an exciting early stage rather than simply maintain an established programme. You’ll have real ownership of how members experience Vemoye and help create a network where connection leads to meaningful action.
What are we looking for?
We’re looking for someone who genuinely enjoys bringing people together and understands what turns a group of people into a community they value being part of.
You’ll be joining at an early stage, so we need someone who is proactive, creative and comfortable taking ownership rather than waiting for a detailed set of instructions.
The most important qualities are:
- A natural community builder: You enjoy connecting people, creating a sense of belonging and thinking about what will keep members engaged.
- Creative and full of ideas: You can develop interesting events, conversations, content and experiences for a busy professional audience.
- An excellent communicator: You can write engaging community communications and feel confident approaching speakers, partners and professionals.
- Highly organised: You can take an idea for a masterclass or event and manage the details required to make it happen.
- Proactive and independent: You’re comfortable testing ideas, making recommendations and moving things forward.
- Audience-focused: You think about what members actually want and use feedback and engagement to continually improve their experience.
Experience in community management, events, professional or membership networks, partnerships, alumni engagement, employee networks, communications or stakeholder engagement would be particularly valuable.
Experience organising virtual or in-person events, sourcing speakers, creating community content or managing platforms such as LinkedIn, Circle or similar would also be useful.
An interest in Nigeria, education, social impact or diaspora engagement is desirable, but not essential.
More than a particular job title, we’re looking for someone who can look at a network of almost 150 professionals and get excited about turning it into a connected, valuable and impact-driven community.
What difference will you make?
This role will help turn Vemoye’s Diaspora Network from a growing membership into a community capable of creating meaningful impact in Nigeria.
Vemoye helps STEM and entrepreneurship education organisations in Nigeria scale, so they can reach more young people with opportunities to develop practical skills and become problem-solvers. A key part of how we do this is by connecting these organisations with experienced professionals who can provide the expertise they need to grow.
Our Diaspora Network has grown to almost 150 members in its first month. Your role will help us turn that early interest into long-term engagement and, ultimately, action.
By creating a valuable community experience, you’ll help us build strong relationships with members and keep them connected to our mission. Through masterclasses, events, communications and networking opportunities, you’ll create a community that professionals value being part of while preparing them to contribute their skills through pro bono consulting.
From January, members will begin supporting our partner organisations with real challenges across areas such as strategy, marketing, finance, technology, operations and more. Your work will help ensure we have an engaged network ready to respond when those opportunities arise.
Ultimately, you’ll help Vemoye build the bridge between professional expertise in the Nigerian diaspora and education organisations on the ground that need it, helping those organisations grow their capacity, reach more young people and increase their impact.
