What will you be doing?

Monkey Park is a 'not for profit' business and our purpose is to improve the local community by bringing people together and supporting their efforts to change the local area. We aim to employ and pay people for jobs they do at Monkey Park and strive to make sure we're enhancing the local economy.  We also offer work experience and various volunteer opportunities.  Any profit is used to continue improving and growing the enterprise for the needs of our community.

We are seeking a Communications Director to join our Board, which currently comprises some dedicated volunteers from the local area, each bringing diverse skills and perspectives to guide our efforts.

As Communications Director, you will play a vital role in overseeing our communications strategy, ensuring Monkey Park communicates well with its community.  This will help to ensure its long-term sustainability. The Board of Directors meets once a month on a weekday evening. This role is voluntary, offering a meaningful opportunity to contribute to a dynamic community-focused organisation.

If you share our passion for community development and have the expertise to support our vision, we’d love to hear from you! We are looking for someone with:

  • Communications strategy and planning expertise (e.g. developing a communications plan).
  • An understanding of the challenges and opportunities faced by community enterprises.
  • A passion for community development and a commitment to our mission.
  • The ability to dedicate time to monthly board meetings and occasional additional tasks.

What are we looking for?

Candidates need experience in marketing strategy and the ability to think strategically.

They need a passion to make a difference to the community.

Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills are a must.  Our directors are warm, empathetic and active listeners who are committed to making their vision become real.  They are itching to help implement a creative solution to our current communication challenges.

What difference will you make?

As a director, your leadership and commitment will ensure we continue to provide a vital service to the community and build a sustainable future for Monkey Park.

Your expertise will be valued as it is a strategic priority that we review and improve our current communications.

As part of this strategy we aim to improve volunteer recruitment and community engagement, both cornerstones of our project.

Anything else...

The role may involve some initial time commitment as we review our communications strategy and renew it. However, gradually, this commitment should lighten because our communications should become slicker as the plan is implemented.
