What will you be doing?
You'll deliver lessons, assist with events or run competitions with young people aged between 9-18.
Your experience and skills can help young people flourish – catering, archery, meteorology, navigation, orienteering, first aid, engineering, photography, marketing, football coaching, IT, social media, driving - there is no limit. Whatever your interest, you could bring it to Ross-On-Wye & Monmouth Unit.
You could also share your skills out on the water with the next generation, through the opportunity to teach watersports such as kayaking, sailing, powerboating, canoeing, rowing and windsurfing. If you don’t have any watersport qualifications, we’ll provide you with all the equipment, training and the opportunity to gain national qualifications with the Royal Yachting Association, British Rowing and UK Paddle.
What are we looking for?
Desirable:
- Prior experience in teaching
- Problem-solving & thinking outside the box
- Prior experience working or volunteering with young people
- Prior experience in a specific subject area, such as First Aid, Boating or the Armed Forces
- Ability to work as part of a team and independently
- Ability to recognise the learning needs of each young person

Providing a friendly and educational environment, you will help our young people reach their potential and push themselves to learn more. Our volunteers help our cadets through the Cadet Training Programme (CTP) which puts them on a pathway to promotion and opens new life changing opportunities.
As well as the opportunity to be involved in a range of activities, the Marine Society and Sea Cadets also provide a wide range of courses to develop your personal and professional skills at little or no cost. For Instructors these courses include, but are not limited to: Boating Courses, Seamanship, Drill, Catering, First Aid at Work, Education and Training Qualifications, Basic Leadership Course.
Three years experience in teaching, educational, youth or other is desirable, we are looking for someone who has the right attitude and a passion for improving the lives of young people . You will be 18 or over and reliable and committed to volunteering.
