Rivan Industries (Rivan.com) is a synthetic fuel company designed to decarbonise heavy industry. We aim to make synthetic fuel cheaper than fossil fuels and sustain life on earth by keeping the CO2 locked underground.
We’ve design and manufacture modular synthetic fuel plants consisting of a DAC system, an Alkaline Electrolyser, and a Sabatier Reactor, vertically integrating with off-grid DC solar and the European gas-grid. Here’s our manifesto on how we plan to do it. We’ve recently deployed the UK’s largest synthetic fuel plant and are planning to 1000x this scale in the next 2 years.
We’re looking for an Engineering Intern to help drive each of our sub-systems forward. You’ll be hands on, involved in all areas of the design, testing, analysing, procurement, build and deployment of our systems. Interns at Rivan are treated like every engineer we have, experienced or not, in that you’ll have large responsibility, resources and tight deadlines from day 1. Over the past few months, interns at Rivan have delivered critical projects like our DAC carbonation bed and our reactor system CAD.
As a company, we have one single goal – reduce the levelised cost of methane to the point drilling stops and companies mine the sky for carbon. If you urge to make a difference in the real-world, surrounded by people you admire doing great work with intensity, this is for you.
The role:
- Sub-System CAD and drawings
- CAD of reactor, electrolyser and BoP assemblies
- Conduct FEA and design iterations
- Drawings and specs for manufacture
- Sub-System testing and analysis
- Build test rigs for fluidic, thermal, chemical and electrical systems
- Procure the parts, write the test plan, execute the test plan – iterate!
- Feed those learnings into the scaling of the system
- BoP procurement, validation and build
- Spec parts and validate process assumptions
- Integrate BoP assemblies across reactor and electrolyser systems
- Test performance and operational range of everything from MFMs to condensers and heaters
Core skills:
- Recent graduate or 1-2 years professional experience.
- Bachelor’s or Masters in Mechanical, Chemical engineering, Electrical engineering, Mechatronic engineering or related field.
- CAD and control system experience.
- Personal projects! What have you tinkered or built yourself?
The things that are important to us for this role:
- Execution history. What have you built, designed or had full responsibility before? Doing stuff in the real world matters.
- Reasoning by first principles. If you can reason well from what you know to be true, you can learn anything.
- Urgency. We don’t have time to wait, are you comfortable with a high-degree of risk and pressure to move fast?
- Grit. How relentless will you be despite set-backs? We’re going up against some big opposition.
Specifics:
- £30-40k salary depending on experience.
- Significant share options as part of the early team.
- In-person work at our HQ in Bermondsey, South London.
- Extensive relocation support, including £6000 per year extra to live close to our HQ.
- Flexible time-off.
