What will you be doing?
Our Trustees work with the Family Support Team who recruit and train volunteers to provide support for vulnerable families in their own homes. This support includes preparing children for school through the Step up for School Programme and issues that may have overwhelmed the parents. Additionally, for those families who may not requite full support at home we run Group Sessions providing opportunities for parents with children under school age to socialise and take part in group play with other families
We are a friendly Board with a close relationship with the Family Support team. We have sub- committees working on key issues such as finance, HR and IT reporting back to the Board giving the opportunity to use individual experiences to support the objectives of the Charity
We have recently expanded our coverage beyond the Newark area and with extra funding there would be opportunity to increase this further. This is an exciting time to join us.
What are we looking for?
Trustees should be approachable, make others feel at ease and be motivated by doing what's best for the greater good . They need to be team players and be prepared to contribute to Board Meetings and Sub Committees.
Trustees provide Governance for the charity and must be prepared to challenge views that they feel are in conflict.
They must believe all children deserve a great start in life and be prepared to support our Executives Team and Volunteers to achieve this objective.
Some of our opportunities are given below but we welcome applications from those who can offer other skills
- Working with our Treasurer to prepare accounts for the Board and Executive Team
- Human Resources support
- IT and Cyber Security support
- Marketing support
What difference will you make?
Home-Start schemes are rooted in the community they serve. We are managed locally and operate as independent charities, responsible for our own fundraising and strategy. We are supported by a national organisation, Home-Start UK, which offers direction, training, information and guidance to schemes to ensure consistent and quality support for parents and children.
Home-Start Newark has a proven, lasting, positive impact on the development of children and the health and welfare of the family. The work that we do is confidential but the Board is kept up to date with the progress achieved with families and this gives great personal satisfaction for the work that we do.
Our Board has members with a wide range of experiences and we find that we can use these to provide support for further growth of our Charity
