What will you be doing?

What do you need the volunteer to do?

The AVOCADO Foundation is seeking an experienced Volunteer BSL Interpreter to support accessibility at our #WorldChangers Awards 2026.

The #WorldChangers Awards bring together grassroots leaders, BAMER-led organisations, funders, corporate partners and community changemakers for an evening of celebration, recognition and connection. This year’s event will recognise organisations and leaders making a difference across the UK, Africa and beyond. The AVOCADO Foundation

Event details:

  • Date: Thursday, 10 December 2026
  • Time: 5:15pm – 9:00pm
  • Venue: The Ohana Floor, Salesforce Tower
  • Address: 110 Bishopsgate, London EC2N 4AY

What you will do:

  • Provide live British Sign Language interpretation during key parts of the #WorldChangers Awards.
  • Interpret speeches, presentations, award announcements and other scheduled event content.
  • Liaise with the AVOCADO team ahead of the event so you are familiar with the programme, speakers and relevant terminology.
  • Support effective communication for Deaf and hard-of-hearing guests attending the event.
  • Where reasonably possible, provide interpretation support during networking or other event interactions.
  • Maintain professionalism, accuracy, confidentiality and appropriate boundaries throughout the event.

We are looking for someone who:

  • Is fluent and confident in British Sign Language, with appropriate interpreting experience and/or qualifications.
  • Has experience interpreting at events, conferences, meetings or similar settings.
  • Can interpret clearly and accurately in a live environment.
  • Is comfortable working with a varied programme and different speakers.
  • Is committed to accessibility, inclusion and respectful communication.
  • Is reliable and available to attend the event in person in central London.

We will provide the event programme and relevant materials in advance to support preparation.

What are we looking for?

  • We are looking for a confident and reliable BSL interpreter who can help us create an inclusive and accessible experience for guests attending the #WorldChangers Awards 2026.
  • Ideally, you will have:
  • Strong fluency in British Sign Language (BSL), supported by relevant interpreting experience and/or qualifications.
  • Experience interpreting at events, conferences, meetings or other live settings.
  • The ability to interpret clearly and accurately across speeches, presentations and award announcements.
  • Confidence working in a busy event environment with different speakers and changing content.
  • Good communication skills and the ability to liaise with the event team in advance to prepare for the programme.
  • A professional, discreet and respectful approach, including maintaining appropriate confidentiality.
  • A genuine commitment to accessibility, inclusion and ensuring Deaf and hard-of-hearing guests can participate fully.
  • Experience of interpreting at awards ceremonies, community events or large-scale events would be helpful, but is not essential.

What difference will you make?

Accessibility is an important part of creating an event where everyone can participate fully.

Your support will help ensure that Deaf and hard-of-hearing guests can engage with the speeches, awards and wider programme at the #WorldChangers Awards 2026, rather than accessibility being a barrier to their participation.

The Awards celebrate BAMER-led organisations and grassroots leaders strengthening communities and creating meaningful social impact. By volunteering your interpreting skills, you will directly help us make that celebration more inclusive and accessible to the people we bring together. The AVOCADO Foundation

You will also be contributing to one of The AVOCADO Foundation’s flagship events and joining a wider community of #WorldChangers committed to creating opportunity, strengthening communities and tackling inequality.
