What will you be doing?

Worcestershire Community Foundation has been giving out funding in the county for over 20 years. Whilst over time our work has significantly evolved, this is a pivotal time for the organisation to move forward, dynamically building our team so that we have the capacity and resource to support local needs sustainably into the future. We have exciting plans for future development and growth going forward in 2027.

As a relatively small organisation with limited staff capacity, we rely on the guidance and expertise of a team of ‘hands-on’, engaged and committed Trustees. Being a Trustee with WCF is so much more than a ‘paper exercise’; we expect our board to actively engage and get involved with many of our activities at whatever level.

Our aims are simple; to work with more individuals and organisations who can give their support to an increasingly at-need number of projects and community groups in Worcestershire. We aim to be part of Worcestershire’s response to emerging challenges while also supporting programmes and sustainable, proactive initiatives with longer-term impacts.

We are currently finalising a new three-year strategy, and as part of our growth and development goals, we are looking to recruit at least two new Trustees to join our Board of eight local individuals.

We are interested in applicants of all ages, from all backgrounds and walks of life; you could be an established (or retired) businessperson with a wide current knowledge of Worcestershire’s corporate sector, a charity worker or volunteer, or someone who simply wishes to give some of their time to helping others. We welcome individuals from both private and public sectors; those who have had previous experience in the charitable sector, but also those who have none. The only requirement is that you are a Worcestershire resident and have a passion for your county, your community, and for helping others.

We welcome trustees who will contribute in their own way to the overall governance and strategy of our organisation, and who are happy to engage their networks to help promote the Foundation to increase our profile and sustainability.

We are proud to have on board a group of dedicated and skilled local trustees who are passionate about our work to improve people’s lives across the county; if you would like further information please get in touch or send your CV and covering letter outlining why you think you would make a great WCF trustee to :

Lucy Wells (Director)

What are we looking for?

We welcome applications from individuals with a strong business background, if possibly with skills and experience in one or more of the following areas

•       Business Development

  •   Legal (especially for charities)
  • Governance

•       IT/ CRM/databases

Experience in charity work would be useful but is not essential.

These are the key characteristics we would look for in a Trustee:

  • Integrity and honesty
  • Enthusiasm to make a difference in Worcestershire
  • The ability to think strategically and see the bigger picture
  • A commitment to the Charity
  • An understanding and acceptance of the legal duties, responsibilities and liabilities of trusteeship (you can receive training on this)
  • A willingness to devote the necessary time and effort to your duties as a Trustee
  • Good independent judgement
  • An ability to think creatively
  •  A willingness to speak your mind and be a 'critical friend'
  • An ability to work effectively as an active member of a team

What difference will you make?

We are seeking energetic, committed and capable trustees to take our vital work forward across Worcestershire. You will be joining us at a point in our journey where we need to build our resource base and profile, and increase our staff team, ensuring that we are fit for purpose to fulfil our mission of serving Worcestershire's most disadvantaged communities into the future.

Whilst the Board's main purpose is to lead our Foundation at a strategic level, as a smaller organisation we are keen to seek those with a desire to roll up their sleeves and get stuck in to help us build and grow.

We particularly welcome applicants with strong business/development, digital/IT and/or comms/PR skills, and well connected individuals with active networks who can help us to tap into the corporate sector in Worcestershire to develop philanthropic partnerships for the future.

Our current Board of eight Trustees are a wonderful, visionary and dedicated group of people, and we are looking for people with equal enthusiasm and complementary skillsets to join them.
