What will you be doing?

Our trustees come from diverse backgrounds, across different ages, genders, ethnic and culturally-diverse backgrounds, and different professional and lived experience. We are a friendly and supportive group. We meet every 6 weeks to ensure the smooth-running of The Squad.

We are particularly keen to hear from people with backgrounds in Comms & marketing, fundraising and finance. But we are also keen to explore what transferrable talents can support our mission.

As a Trustee of The Squad, the time and energy you contribute will make a direct and tangible difference to the charity and everyone it helps to support. Our club is split into two age groups 14 - 25 years (our Juniors Club) and 25 years+ (our Vets Club).

What are we looking for?

  • A motivated individual who would like to use their professional or other experience to contribute to and develop an ambitious long term growth and sustainability strategy for a local charity.
  • We ask trustees to dedicate around 8 - 10 hours a month/6 weeks of remote work to support the running, strategy, management and governance of The Squad.
  • We particularly welcome applicants based in or around the Merton area, who are able to help The Squad to build connections within the local community and are able to attend occasional club nights to meet our members.
  • Individual contribution varies a lot depending on the person’s skills, expertise and the time they can commit. We ask that trustees get involved with a variety of aspects of The Squad; from financial matters, governance, marketing, fundraising, strategy or line managing staff.
  • The Squad is overseen by a Board of Trustees with a wide set of skills and experience. We draw our strength from having a team of people with a wide range of backgrounds.
  • As our current Board is geographically dispersed, applicants should be comfortable working in a remote team and communicating via Zoom, email and telephone.

Further information

  • We encourage Trustees to occasionally support club nights to bridge any gap between our members, families, volunteers and trustees. We have a positive working relationship between the Board and our leaders, volunteers and members.
  • Depending on your experience and interest, you will work with other board members and club leaders on specific fundraising, strategic or operational projects.
  •  The Squad club itself is based in South Wimbledon, but we ask trustees to attend board meetings every 6 weeks on Zoom and to attend Thursday evening clubs 2 - 3 times per year. We meet in-person for strategy planning once a year.

What are we looking for?

You do not need to have any previous experience with those with learning disabilities, just an open mind and a positive attitude towards disability.

We are particularly keen to hear from people with experience in comms and marketing, fundraising and finance.

What difference will you make?

You will make a huge difference. We are a small and hyper local charity doing amazing things with our more-than-amazing members. You will learn new skills, make friendships, meet new people, work as a team and have significant leadership opportunities.

Our members are central to what we do and we seek to involve and support them in designing activities and feeding back on how they would like the Squad to be run.

Anything else...

We ask trustees to dedicate around 8 - 10 hours a month/6 weeks of remote work to support the running, strategy, management and governance.
