Global Canopy is a data-driven not for profit that targets the market forces destroying nature. We do this by improving transparency and accountability. We provide innovative open-access data, clear metrics, and actionable insights to leading companies, financial institutions, governments and campaigning organisations worldwide.

Forest 500 identifies and ranks the most influential companies and financial institutions in forest risk commodity supply chains as we shift to a deforestation-free economy. By objectively identifying and ranking these 500 powerbrokers on an annual basis, the Forest 500 holds the companies and financial institutions accountable for their actions.

The Forest 500 powerbrokers are selected biannually to ensure the most important companies, and investors and lenders are included. Every year, 350 companies and 150 investors, banks and lenders are assessed.

The Forest 500 Research Assistants will play a key role in the 2022 assessments of the corporate and financial powerbrokers commitments on tropical deforestation and associated human rights.

This position is a great opportunity for those looking to start their career in the environmental sector, and ideal candidates will have no more than two years of work experience. The successful candidate is expected to start on 9th May 2022.

You will assist in:

  • Locating, cataloguing and evaluating company and financial institution policies and other company-disclosed information relevant to their deforestation and human rights commitments
  • Working with members of the Corporate Performance team and external consultants to complete assessments of the Forest 500 powerbrokers on their commitments
  • Researching and updating powerbroker data for the Forest 500 website
  • Collating and cleaning the data from the assessments ready to be presented on the website and for analysis, including the annual Forest 500 report
  • Working with the rest of the team to identify novel insights emerging from the data

There are two positions available.
