Volunteers are at the heart of everything we do. The King's Trust couldn’t function without the support of thousands of volunteers across the UK, who can offer a vital network to young people facing significant barriers to jobs, education, or training.

Our Employability and Progression Mentors provide one-to-one support to help young people build confidence, develop key skills, and progress towards positive outcomes.

If you have experience working within the NHS, whether as an Allied Health Professional, Estates and Facilities colleague, Healthcare Support Worker, Nurse, Dentist, Pharmacist, Administrator, or within Public Health, you could play a vital role in inspiring the next generation. You will support groups of young people by helping to facilitate and lead engaging sessions, sharing your knowledge, experience, and insight into NHS careers.

How you will help us: If you have experience working in the NHS, whether in a clinical or non-clinical role, you can help young people build their knowledge, confidence, and employability skills. You may support the delivery of healthcare-focused sessions, share your career journey and experiences, provide application and recruitment guidance, or assist with activities such as CV reviews, mock interviews, and NHS job searches.

Full training and session plans are provided, ensuring you feel confident and equipped to support young people. As a mentor, you will work one-to-one with a young person who is interested in an NHS career, helping them navigate applications, understand job requirements, and develop the skills and resilience needed to become work ready.

Mentoring partnerships typically last around six months and require approximately one hour per week. Meetings are usually held virtually and arranged around your and the young person's availability. While NHS experience is desirable, it is not essential. We welcome applicants from all backgrounds who are passionate about supporting the next generation of NHS professionals.

Knowledge and skills that are important to this role: Building trust with young people from various backgrounds – mentoring skills, great communicator, positive, encouraging, giving and receiving constructive corrective feedback and reinforcing learning and progress. Being a role model with experience or a growth and progress story that young people can relate to. Experience in job searches, the application process, and interview experiences.

Here at The King's Trust, we're committed to equality, diversity and inclusion. We want to be an organisation that's representative of the communities we serve, which is why we strive for diversity of age, gender identity, sexual orientation, physical or mental ability, ethnicity and perspective. Our goal is to create an environment where everyone, from any background, can be themselves and do the best work of their lives.

The King's Trust is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. As part of this commitment, we undertake basic disclosure checks in accordance with the Codes of Practice for all roles within the Trust, and for our roles working directly with young people, at an enhanced level. Having a criminal record will not automatically exclude applicants.
