What will you be doing?

Following a thorough strategic review, we recently formed a new Board of Trustees, adopted a new Constitution approved by the Charity Commission, and produced a new 10-year Strategic Plan which outlines, among other elements, our fundraising strategy. We are, therefore, eager to attract a Trustee with:
•    The capacity to support PCAP in fundraising to achieve its strategic growth and financial resilience goals in the mid and long terms;

•    Relevant expertise, skills and knowledge on charitable fundraising and self-generation of income;

•    Ability to support the Executive Director and senior leadership team on fundraising issues when appropriate.

We are seeking candidates with the following competencies:
•    Commitment to our mission to improve the lives of African individuals and disadvantaged people of all ethnic origins through leadership development;
•    Respect and appreciation for the African cultures and values that underpin our charity;
•    Enthusiasm about the filling of our current fundraising gaps and contributing to the good management of our small charity;
•    Strong strategic and critical thinking;
•    Ability to identify opportunities and detect potential risks or challenges;
•    And willingness to devote the necessary time and efforts to their duties, including participation in 4 online board meetings a year, and one face-to-face annual strategic retreat.
We would particularly welcome applications from candidates with one or more of the following experiences:
•    Essential – Ability to operate collaboratively and collectively, ensuring all Trustee decisions are made in the best interest of the charity and its service-users;
•    Essential – Experience in fundraising;
•    Desirable – Experience providing fundraising support to a charity at management or board level.

The commitment required is approximately up to 4 hours per month, including quarterly board meetings, often via Zoom since the pandemic.

What are we looking for?

We are particularly looking for candidates with:

•    The fundraising skills, knowledge and expertise necessary to help us achieve our strategic growth and financial resilience goals;
•    High level of emotional intelligence; with understanding of how their behaviour can affect the wider team and ability to demonstrate a constructive approach to managing and moderating emotions in the workplace.

We are a welcoming, dedicated and fast-growing team that is making a very positive difference to the lives of African individuals and disadvantaged people of all ethnic origins in the UK through leadership development. We have plans to expand to the African continent and, in due course, worldwide, and are buoyant at the prospect of realising these plans. Working with us is a uniquely rewarding experience, filled with exciting challenges, innovative thinking and laughter.

We will offer you:

  • A values-led culture that will enable you to thrive as a Trustee;
  • Many opportunities for growth and development;
  • Flexible and remote working – you will be in total control of when and how you work as a Trustee;
  • Reimbursement of travel costs and other expenses incurred while fulfilling your role.

What difference will you make?

We recently carried out a thorough strategic review, that led us to take the decision to transform PCAP into a charity specialising in leadership development. We also produced a new 10-year Strategic Plan outlining our fundraising strategy and goals over the forthcoming 10 years.
In view of this situation, we are seeking a Trustee who will:
•    Support our charity in fundraising to achieve its strategic growth and financial resilience goals in the mid and long terms;
•    Have the capacity to operate collaboratively at Board level, to ensure that the organisation is well-managed, accountable and operating in the best interest of its service-users.

Anything else...

The commitment required is approximately up to 5 hours per month, including quarterly board meetings, often via Zoom since the pandemic.
