Help us tell the Dads Kids Club story and grow our reach
Overview
£44000 - £65000
Hybrid; London
Expires at anytime
Dads Kids Club (‘DKC’) exists to improve outcomes for children by increasing the involvement of fathers and male carers in children's learning, development and educational lives.
Over the coming months we will be working directly with schools and running weekend residencies and pop-up activity with cultural and community partners across London.
We want to capture that work brilliantly and communicate it in a way that feels warm, energetic, inclusive and recognisably Dads Kids Club.
Freelance rate: £200-£300 per day, depending on experience.
This is a freelance commission rather than a salaried role. Escape the City displays an annualised salary equivalent of £44,000–£65,000, but the successful person will be engaged and paid on an agreed day rate within the range above. Reasonable pre-agreed travel expenses incurred for DKC delivery will be reimbursed separately from the day rate.
The initial commission runs to the end of December 2026, with the number and pattern of days agreed in advance around content priorities and activity dates.
The project
We are looking for a hands-on Content & Marketing Producer who can capture great material, turn it into engaging content and help us communicate what DKC is doing and grow our social media reach.
This is a practical delivery commission rather than a strategy-only brief. We need someone who can create strong content, get it out into the world and help build awareness of DKC.
Key responsibilities
- Work with DKC to create a simple November–December content plan.
- Turn agreed activity into a regular flow of usable content rather than simply capturing material.
- Attend selected school, family and weekend activities to capture appropriate photography and video.
- Edit short-form video, photographs and other material into social-ready content.
- Create, draft and schedule social content across agreed DKC channels, particularly LinkedIn and Instagram, including adapting content for different audiences and formats.
- Help tell the stories of participating fathers, male carers, children, schools and partners appropriately and sensitively.
- Produce simple, well-designed flyers, posters, school materials, event assets and social graphics using Canva, Adobe or similar tools, working within DKC’s existing brand.
- Monitor basic content performance and help identify which formats, stories and messages are generating the strongest engagement.
- Adapt existing DKC brand assets into useful materials for different audiences.
- Build and maintain an organised bank of approved photographs, video and other content.
- Work within DKC's safeguarding, consent and data-protection processes at all times.
- Transfer finished and source material into DKC's agreed storage systems and remove participant material from personal devices when no longer required.
- Suggest simple ways DKC can improve its content and communications as the programme develops.
What we're looking for
We care more about the quality of your work, judgement and ability to make things happen than having followed a particular career path. You should be able to show examples of content you have personally created.
We are particularly interested in someone who:
- can confidently capture and edit short-form video
- has a good eye for natural, human photography and storytelling
- understands how to create social content that feels natural, engaging and human rather than overly corporate
- can produce clean, attractive flyers and simple marketing materials
- writes clearly and naturally
- is comfortable working around children, parents and community activity
- understands the sensitivity required when capturing content involving children
- is organised with digital files, permissions and deadlines
- can work independently and turn around content quickly
Experience in the family, education, cultural, charity or community sectors would be useful, but is not essential. An understanding of, or interest in, father engagement, family learning and the communities DKC works with would be welcome.
You don’t need to meet every point above. If the role excites you and you think you could do it well, we’d still really like to hear from you.
Safeguarding and consent
All content involving children and families must be captured strictly within DKC's agreed safeguarding and consent processes.
The successful freelancer will receive a DKC safeguarding and content-capture induction before attending sessions.
Working arrangements
Most editing, design and scheduling can be undertaken remotely.
The freelancer will need to travel to agreed activity across London, including some weekend sessions, to capture content.
The exact mix of capture, editing, design and social media work will be agreed at the start of the commission, with clear priorities and deliverables for November and December.
The initial contract runs to the end of December 2026. There is no guarantee of further work, although DKC's longer-term communications requirements will be reviewed as the programme develops.
How to apply
We’ve tried to keep the application simple. Please click apply and submit:
1. Your CV or LinkedIn profile
2. A cover letter or a video
- a short cover note (maximum one side of A4), or
- a relaxed 1–3 minute phone video
If applying by video, simply paste a link to it in the application / cover letter field.
3. Some examples of your work [include links in the cover letter]
A formal portfolio isn’t necessary - links to work, social posts, videos, photography or other content you’re proud of are absolutely fine. Please briefly explain what you personally contributed.
4. Tell us briefly:
- why Dads Kids Club interests you
- what you could bring to the project
- what kind of content you most enjoy creating
And please confirm:
- your general availability to the end of December 2026
- your broad availability for occasional weekend activity
- your earliest available start date
- that you can travel to activity across London when required
The video does not need to be polished - a phone video is completely fine. We're interested in your motivation, communication and what you could bring to the project rather than production quality.
Please let us know if you need any reasonable adjustments during the application process.
Application deadline: Friday 6 November at 12 noon.
Applications may be reviewed as they are received, so early applications are encouraged.
