Renaissance Philanthropy (RenPhil) exists to fuel a 21st-century renaissance. We fund and house teams working on the most ambitious science and technology initiatives to tackle the world's hardest problems. Our programs are run by high-agency experts in fields from biology to mathematics, and every one of them moves faster and further when it has the right technology infrastructure underneath it.

We're hiring our first full-time IT and AI Infrastructure Lead to build the technology foundation this work runs on. In the age of AI, that means tracking new tools and techniques and equipping RenPhil to be responsive to those that are relevant to us. Our teams are already reaching for the newest tools, and you'll help determine how we offer, secure, and manage them across the organization.

Just as importantly, this role is about doing the basics exceptionally well: cloud infrastructure, central tools, identity, devices, access, security, and vendors, across a fast-growing organization with global entities.

This is a hands-on role in an organization that operates with the pace and ambiguity of a startup. You'll set direction, and you'll also find yourself configuring the tenant, untangling the account nobody owns, and fixing what breaks. Our external IT and security teams extend what we can take on, and you’ll direct their work and partner with them to make sure our technology strategy is delivered. The role will evolve as we grow, and you'll help shape what it becomes.

At a glance, you will: Own RenPhil's core IT: cloud infrastructure, identity, devices, access, and the everyday systems everyone depends on, across our US and UK entities. Own our security program, with support from our external security team, so that our foundation is secure and we can grow securely. Own all of our technology vendor relationships, including our security team, help desk, and infrastructure providers. Give our teams secure, governed access to AI tools and models, with clear guardrails and cost controls.

We prefer this role to be located on the East Coast, given the timezone spread of our team. Base compensation for this role will be $175,000-$210,000, with total compensation including 401K contribution, cash benefits, and bonus equaling $218,000-$270,000. We may consider a higher salary band for exceptional candidates.

Role and Responsibilities Core IT and security Own the employee technology lifecycle across our US and UK entities, including onboarding, offboarding, access, and hardware. Administer Google Workspace, Slack, Airtable, Fluxx, Juro, and the tools around them. Manage our IT help desk provider to make sure these processes run well. Own the security program. Work with our fractional CISO and external security team to address our most significant risks, and turn that work into configuration, tools, policy, and training. Handle escalations and complex issues that go beyond our help desk provider. Vendors and cost Own vendors and budget. You’ll set expectations, hold vendors accountable, change course when needed, and manage renewals and total technology spend. You’ll be responsible for the management of IT spend, and ensuring that we are allocating costs across our programs effectively. AI, cloud, and developer resources Select, provision, and govern AI tools and model access, with clear guardrails on data and spend. Work with our Automations team to apply AI to operational problems. Own organizational cloud, AI provider, and GitHub accounts, along with domains, API keys, and credentials. Keep them secure, centrally managed, and cost-visible, with spend attributed by project and budget alerts in place. Strategy and growth With the Director of Operations and Automations Lead, set RenPhil's IT strategy and roadmap, including what we run, buy, and outsource. Lead the technology workstream for new funds, programs, spin-ins, and spin-outs. This includes migrations, account transitions, and data separation, plus the challenges and opportunities that arrive with scale. Key Qualifications 6+ years in scaling IT or technical operations, including time as the senior technology owner who was accountable. Hands-on by default. You configure systems yourself and can point to messy, ambiguous situations you sorted out without a playbook. A strong generalist across identity, endpoint management, security, SaaS administration, and cloud. You don't need to be the deepest expert in any one area, but you know enough in each to make good decisions, scope work well, and evaluate specialists. Experience setting up and managing core systems such as MDM, and working knowledge of at least one major cloud platform. Demonstrated experience using, rolling out, or building AI-enabled tools, with sensible governance around data and cost. A track record of managing MSPs and vendors, and enabling them to integrate in a way that maximizes impact. Comfortable working alongside software engineers. You can review an architecture decision and ask the right questions. Outcomes In three years, RenPhil will have a technology foundation that scales with the organization. Onboarding and launching a new fund will be routine. Tools, accounts, and vendors will have clear owners and purpose. Engineering teams will be able to focus on their own work. Teams will use AI confidently and safely, and leadership will have a clear view of technology risk. Values You will thrive within our team if you: Have strong mission and vision alignment: You believe in the power of science, innovation, and technology to create a brighter future for all. Exhibit high agency: You can move mountains and break perceived constraints. Inspire others and are highly collaborative: You can motivate others to join your mission and goals. You understand the value of going further by working with others. Value exceptional talent and the power of networks: You can spot or nurture exceptional talent and believe in the value of building networks and the power law of talent. Are comfortable working in fast-moving and ambitious teams: You are not afraid of ambiguity and enjoy working at pace. Diversity We encourage anyone who is interested in this role to apply, regardless of whether you feel you meet 100% of the qualifications. The top candidates will bring their own unique perspectives, experiences, and backgrounds from a variety of industries along with many but not necessarily all the skills listed above. Recruiting, hiring, mentoring, and retaining a diverse workforce is critical to our success. All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, colour, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, disability, or status as a protected veteran. Renaissance Philanthropy is an equal-opportunity employer. We celebrate diversity and are committed to creating an inclusive environment for all employees. If you require an accommodation at any stage of the application or interview process, please let us know and we will work with you to provide it. Next Steps Apply here . Applications will be accepted on a rolling basis until Nov. 20.
