What will you be doing?
Kainé is a Leicester charity founded in 2002, delivering choirs, youth programmes, schools work and community engagement. We hold personal information about children, young people, families, staff and volunteers, and we are moving to new digital systems. We need an experienced data protection volunteer to help us stay compliant and protect people's information, working remotely and flexibly alongside our small team.
What you will do:
- Review our data protection and privacy policies and keep them up to date
- Maintain our record of processing, privacy notices and consent wording
- Advise on data protection impact assessments, subject access requests and any data incidents
- Check that data protection is built into our new CRM and digital systems
- Help train staff and volunteers in good data handling practice
What are we looking for?
Essential
- At least three years of professional experience in data protection, information governance, information security or compliance.
- Working knowledge of UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018.
- Experience of writing or reviewing policies, privacy notices and data protection impact assessments.
- Sound judgement and discretion with sensitive information, and clear communication with non-specialists.
- Ability to work independently and remotely, and to work well with trustees and a small team.
Desirable
- Experience in a charity, education or youth work setting, including handling children's data.
- A data protection or information security qualification or certification.
- Familiarity with Microsoft 365 and cloud-based CRM systems.
We particularly welcome applications from people who reflect the diversity of the communities we serve.
What difference will you make?
Families and young people trust Kainé with their information. Your support will protect that trust, keep us on the right side of UK GDPR, and give funders and partners confidence in how we handle data, especially as we move to new digital systems.
