Key Information

Role: Mentoring Programme Officer

Location: Bristol, Manchester, Newcastle, Nottingham or London

Hours: Full-time 40 hours per week, 9am - 6pm 

Start date: June 2022

Salary: £22,068 pro rata per annum, plus £2000 London weighting if based in London. In addition, all staff receive a £312 yearly tax-free WFH allowance.

Core Responsibilities

Supporting with the day-to-day running of the mentoring programme: 

  • Taking responsibility for communicating with mentors and mentees, including troubleshooting, responding to queries and sending regular updates;
  • Managing programme operations, including making mentor and mentee matches;
  • Ensuring all outputs are delivered effectively and on time, in collaboration with the Delivery & Sector Managers and Programme Leaders;
  • Developing enhanced training sessions and resources to ensure that mentors and mentees have a high-quality experience;
  • Creating enhanced processes to monitor the success of each mentoring relationship, and proactively identify any individual concerns;
  • Developing new campaigns and events to meaningfully engage with existing mentors, ensuring a smooth volunteer experience and increasing mentor retention rates;
  • Collaborating with Managers and Senior Officers to provide robust and detailed reporting to participating partner employers on an ongoing basis, increasing the chances of renewals.

Supporting on the development of upReach’s new Social Mobility Network platform:

  • Working alongside our Project and Product Managers to transition our existing mentoring programme into this platform, providing an integrated, joined-up mentoring experience for Associates;
  • Identifying any gaps in our existing mentoring provision and developing new ideas to enhance and improve our new SMN platform;
  • Provide user support for mentoring relationships facilitated via the platform, including troubleshooting and match suggestions.

Person Specification 

This position would be suited to individuals who are committed to upReach’s mission and have an understanding of, and empathy with, the challenges facing those from lower socio-economic backgrounds.

Essential Skills/Experience:

  1. Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
  2. Excellent organisational skills and the ability to prioritise a varied workload, manage competing demands and deliver to tight deadlines
  3. Strong problem-solving skills
  4. Self-motivation and an ability to work in a small team as well as independently
  5. Ability to engage and communicate confidently with stakeholders, such as Trustees, beneficiaries, upReach partners and all levels of employees across the organisation. 

Desirable Skills/Experience:

  1. Experience in researching, setting up and training others in new systems and procedures for monitoring volunteer engagement
  2. Experience working both back and front ends of website platforms and online databases
  3. Familiarity with G-Suite and Zoom video conferencing software
  4. Experience running volunteering or mentoring programmes for a charity
