This is an opportunity to work at the heart of a busy and varied department, providing trusted support to the Director of Estates, Capital Projects & Design and helping them make the best use of their time. You will have real ownership of the day to day running of the Director’s office, from anticipating priorities and preparing for key meetings to keeping decisions and actions moving forward. With visibility across the department, you will work closely with senior leaders and colleagues involved in major capital programmes and the operational estate. It is a role with plenty of variety and scope to make an impact, combining first class executive support with governance, communication and coordination across the department.
About you You will bring strong senior level Executive Assistant or Personal Assistant experience, with a track record of supporting a director or equivalent senior leader in a busy, complex organisation. Highly organised and proactive, you will be confident managing competing priorities independently, anticipating what is needed and using sound judgement to keep a demanding office running smoothly. You will be an excellent written and verbal communicator, able to draft and proofread high quality correspondence, papers and reports and handle confidential information with discretion. You will build effective relationships at all levels and bring tact, diplomacy, attention to detail and a solutions focused approach. Experience in estates, capital projects, construction or a comparable technical or project environment would be useful but is not essential.

The Masterplan The British Museum is undertaking its biggest transformation since its founding nearly 300 years ago. This physical and intellectual transformation includes large scale building and gallery transformation, new ways of connecting with audiences and different ways of working. As we look towards this exciting future, we remain guided by the words of our founder Hans Sloane - who dreamed of a museum connecting all arts and sciences, which would be accessible to everyone, everywhere.
