We're changing the legal profession. Fully remote role with the opportunity to train up to a head of operations.
Overview
£28000 - £31000
100% remote
Expires 01-5-22 - Applications reviewed after this date
Hey - I’m Jaysen, the founder of The Corporate Law Academy (TCLA), the largest community of incoming lawyers. As the Operations Executive at TCLA, you’ll be responsible for running the day-to-day operations of the business.
TCLA is a remote-first business. Provided you have the right to work in the UK, you can be based anywhere. Ideally, you’ll be able to travel to London from time-to-time, when we have team events, 1-1s, and meetings with lawyers.
I started TCLA back in 2018, after I left a career at a US law firm. I left as a result of battling with my mental health and the demands of an intense career. Today, with over 100,000 posts and 20,000 members, we’ve built an incredible community to change the lives of aspiring lawyers. I want you to help us shape the future of that community and the future direction of TCLA.
Delivering joy is a really big part of what we do, which is why we try to delight our members at every opportunity. Fundamentally, we don’t want the ability to access great ideas to be governed by an individual’s background, connections or location. We care deeply about sharing the most valuable information we find to the world. We also want to help as many people as possible along the way.
The Role
Here is a short video to tell you more about the role.
You are ambitious, would like to learn quickly in a start-up environment, but you also want to find meaning in the work you do.
You’ll be essential to our business. You’ll be working directly with me throughout the week, and I’ll train you on the day-to-day tasks I undertake. Week-to-week, we’ll discuss strategy, the challenges facing a start-up business, and how we can better improve our operations.
As you progress, I’ll be actively looking to support you with more responsibilities, having you determine strategy, lead team meetings and meet with new partners. I'm hiring someone with the view to progress them to the head of operations at TCLA in the long-term, so you can be involved in the biggest decisions of the business.
- Start Date: 13 June 2022 - Permanent Role
- Hours: Full-time (Monday - Friday; 9am - 5pm)
- Location: You need to have the right to work in the UK and the ability to travel to London from time-to-time. Otherwise, it's fully remote.
- Salary: £28,000-£31,000 (depending on experience)
Responsibilities
- Deliver a delightful experience to our customers. We see every customer interaction as the perfect opportunity to make someone’s day, which is why we have grown so quickly, organically. You’ll be on the frontlines of delivering joy to our customers.
- Make us a better business. We see the running of our business as a start-up; we’re constantly learning how to run our business better. By improving our processes and writing things down, you’ll allow everyone in the team to do more in less time.
- Manage the delivery of our services. You’ll be the glue that allows our team members to focus on giving outstanding advice to our community.
- Implementing strategy across the business. As a solo founder, it’s hard to determine the strategy of the business alone. You’ll join me in the highest-level discussions and, with my support, lead the way in implementing those actions.
Requirements
You are ambitious, excited to work for a startup, but you also want to find joy in your work. Perhaps you’re an incoming/ex-lawyer with doubts about your career choice (…but you don’t have to be in law to apply!)
You're in this full-time for the long-term. You want to build your career at TCLA. You're self-motivated and the prospect of receiving a high amount of responsibility at graduate level excites you.
You have high standards, take pride in continuously improving your skill-set and delivering excellence. You jump at the opportunity to figure stuff out to improve a business.
You consider your superpowers to be your communication, organisation and attention to detail skills. You love feedback.
You care deeply about making a difference to the lives of others and you are excited by the opportunity to deliver joy to our members.
If you don't have a lot of experience but you do have the above skills, please do apply - we're looking for someone with a lot of potential and we'll give you the training to excel in your role. Really, it's about having the foundations to set you up for success.
Why join us?
We’re designing a business that optimises for day-to-day happiness. In other words, you’ll be in an environment where you’re appreciated and valued (because that should be the norm). You’ll be changing the lives of our thousands of people because delivering joy is fundamental to what we do.
The more you want to get involved, the more opportunities there will be - the sky really is the limit in this role. You'll be our first full-time hire and you’ll join an environment designed to unlock your potential. We're curious and constantly learning, and we’ll give you the tools to support your self improvement goals. This means we'll fund the books you want to read and the courses you want to take.
We focus on long-term profitable growth, and we are keen to provide you with a world-class learning experience along the way.
I'm very open to having a conversation about equity options as you progress in the role.
Remote work is at the core of what we do. We take pride in delivering excellent work and then switching off when our work is done. This is a fundamental part of who we are: we want you to love what you do but also have a life outside of work. We care about your output, not the tracking of your time.
Finally, we pride ourselves on being kind and authentic. We’ll bend over backwards to make sure you are supported when you need to take time off. You’ll get 25 days holiday plus bank holidays, a wellbeing budget and mental health days.
What should I include in my cover letter?
Please look carefully at the 'Requirements' section and justify why you have the skills/attributes mentioned.
If you're new to operations, that's okay, but you need to demonstrate how you are exceptionally organised and a strong communicator. I will be looking closely at the clarity of your writing because much of how we communicate is in written form.
At TCLA, you'll be wearing many hats and I'm looking for someone who can comfortably rise to the challenge with the right training to become a second-in-command.
Finally, I need to know that you are in this for the long-term and that you want to build your career at TCLA.
