London Wildlife Trust
London’s wildlife is under real threat, and we need to act now.
London Wildlife Trust is a driving force for nature conservation across the capital. With our dedicated supporters and volunteers, we work tirelessly to protect wildlife across London.
We take action every day to help wildlife flourish through practical conservation work; we engage, inspire and enable people to connect with nature; and through campaigns and consultancy, we give wildlife a voice.
Role & Responsibilities
You’ll be working with young people aged 11-25 from communities underrepresented in nature conservation, to celebrate their achievements, promote their journeys, and empower others like them to take action for nature.
This role will work to diversify our current audiences, reaching a wider range of Londoners online to promote the joy of urban nature and empower them to make positive changes for nature within their communities.
Via online communications, you will focus on building valuable partnerships with young people and their community groups. You will support and train communities with developing and leading environmental initiatives that work for them, through a varied and tailored training programme and online resources. The post-holder will have extensive experience in creating content and telling stories to effectively engage target audiences in innovative and exciting ways.
This role is part of the new Nextdoor Nature movement, that will see thousands of people across the UK empowered to lead action for wildlife within their communities, reclaiming and creating new green spaces for nature in rural and urban places on their doorstep.
Overall responsibilities:
- Delivering youth focussed communications to talk to our identified audience, working closely with the Youth programmes team.
- Exploring new and inspiring ways of communicating with young people, working across a broad range of channels.
- Building and maintaining positive relationships with new communities of young people online.
- Working with young participants in the programme to ensure their digital outputs are shared on London Wildlife Trust channels.
- Assisting the Marketing and Communications – Stakeholders Manager with reporting and impact measurement for the Nextdoor Nature Project.
- Co-ordinating and delivering online training sessions – sharing your communications skills and inviting colleagues and external partners to deliver workshops.
- Developing and promoting online guidance materials created specifically for young people.
- Celebrating success stories and progress from young people’s projects for wildlife via social media.
- Conducting community consultation with identified communities and adapting approaches based on findings.
- Developing London Wildlife Trust’s communications informed by young people’s recommendations: new media, peer-to-peer communication, positive and exciting messaging.
- Completing an Award in Community Organising provided by The Trust and run by the National Academy in Community Organising.
- Occasionally working with volunteers and third-party designers to produce marketing and communications assets from briefing to completion.
- Keeping up to date with best practices in marketing and communications and comply with relevant legislation and regulation and to work within the organisation’s policies and procedures, and ensure that good practice is observed.
- Ensuring that all data protection obligations are met in all aspects of the role including adherence to GDPR.
- Carrying out any other duties as required by the Marketing and Communications team, and the line manager consistent with the job purpose.
