Role Summary

At Wakehurst, Kew’s wild botanic garden in Sussex, we are excited to offer a unique opportunity for a creative and experienced learning and public engagement specialist to join our Senior Leadership Team. This role is integral to our mission, leading both formal and informal learning, participation, and events. You will be responsible for delivering inspiring and informative experiences and content, connecting people to nature through Wakehurst’s designed and wilder landscapes, conservation, and research programmes.
The Role: As the Head of Learning & Public Engagement, you will manage a newly structured department and report directly to the Director of Wakehurst. Your responsibilities will include strategic leadership and hands-on delivery of projects, managing budgets, and achieving KPIs. You will champion accessibility, safeguarding, and EDI best practices, and your role will be crucial in driving attendance and income through innovative visitor experiences and events.
Job Requirements: We are looking for a dynamic leader with a proven track record in similar roles. Essential skills include excellent communication, influencing, and stakeholder engagement abilities. Experience in fundraising, ticketing strategy, and audience engagement is crucial. A background in botanic science, conservation, or biodiversity will be considered a bonus.
