Mechanical Engineer

Rivan Industries is a pioneering synthetic fuel company focused on decarbonizing heavy industry. Our mission is to make synthetic fuel more affordable than fossil fuels, thereby sustaining life on earth by keeping CO2 locked underground. We design and manufacture modular synthetic fuel plants that include a DAC system, an Alkaline Electrolyser, and a Sabatier Reactor. These plants are integrated with off-grid DC solar and the European gas-grid. We have recently deployed the UK's largest synthetic fuel plant and have plans to significantly scale this operation within the next two years.

The role: As a Mechanical Engineer at Rivan Industries, you will be instrumental in bringing our innovative designs to life. Your main responsibilities will include designing and building test rigs to validate key assumptions about gas composition and condensing, stack thermal monitoring and control, pressure drop across BoP, vapour separation design and validation, gasket and cell design, and laser cutting prototypes. You will also be involved in testing different concepts across materials and morphology, conducting CFD analysis, designing power systems, and coupling DC solar relative to stack and cell performance. Additionally, you will execute test plans, which include performance curves, longevity testing, and thermal testing.

Job requirements: The ideal candidate will have 1-2+ years of professional experience and hold a Bachelor’s or Masters in mechanical/aero or a related field. A fundamental understanding of thermofluids, heat and mass transfer, and chemical kinetics is essential. Experience in system design, including component sourcing, CAD (SolidWorks), design for manufacture/assembly, simulation/analytical modelling competency, test setup design, running of experiments, and data analysis is required.
