The European Space Agency (ESA) is excited to announce an opening for a Sunrise Lead Payload Engineer at our Noordwijk location in the Netherlands. This role is within the LEO Satellites Programme Office, part of the Satellite Programmes Department in the Directorate of Connectivity and Secure Communications.

The role: As the Lead Payload Engineer, you will be pivotal in all payload development and procurement aspects of the assigned Sunrise Project. You will serve as the primary point of contact with the satellite operator and the industrial prime contractor. Under the leadership of management, you will make crucial decisions for the ESA Partnership Project. Your responsibilities will include the design, development, qualification, on-ground verification, and in-orbit validation of the satellite payload, ensuring it meets mission requirements and performance goals within the set schedule and budget.

Job requirements: The position requires a master's degree in a relevant engineering discipline. You should have experience in payload design, development, verification, and familiarity with ESA procurement and contract negotiation. Knowledge of risk management and ESA processes, including industrial development and procurement, is essential. Experience with 5G payloads for constellations and public-private partnership projects is highly desirable.
