Role Summary:

  • Propagate and cultivate valuable living plant collections.
  • Maintain accurate records to conserve and enhance the scientific value of the plant collections.
  • Contribute towards Kew's scientific research by providing living plant material for research and conservation.
  • Gain new skills by working alongside a diverse, multi-disciplinary garden team.


Role Requirements:

  • Good understanding and experience in diverse propagation techniques, irrigation, plant nutrition, pest and disease management, and operation of relevant machinery.
  • Level 2 qualification in horticulture or an equivalent.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Basic IT skills and a working knowledge of Health and Safety.
  • A strong interest in plants and the aspiration to expand your knowledge in a unique garden setup.

The role: As an Arboretum Nursery Horticulturist at Kew Gardens, you will be responsible for propagating and cultivating some of the most valuable living plant collections. Your duties will include keeping accurate records to help maintain the high conservation and scientific value of the plant collections. You will also contribute to Kew’s scientific research projects by providing living plant material for research and conservation programmes. There will be plenty of opportunity to learn new skills through working within the wider multi-disciplinary gardens team.

Job requirements: The successful candidate will have good knowledge and experience in a wide range of propagation techniques as well as irrigation, plant nutrition, pest and disease management, and use of appropriate machinery. Ideally, you will have a Level 2 qualification in horticulture or an equivalent. Good communication and interpersonal skills are essential, as are basic IT skills and a working knowledge of Health and Safety. A keen interest in plants and a desire to develop your knowledge further within a unique garden is crucial.
