About Cool Earth

Cool Earth is an international non-profit organisation that protects rainforests by supporting the people who live in them. We have more than 15 years’ experience working alongside Indigenous peoples and local communities living in some of the world’s largest and most important rainforests, including the Amazon, the Congo Basin and the rainforests of Papua New Guinea.

Cool Earth’s mission is to support Indigenous peoples living in the world’s most threatened rainforests by providing direct and flexible funding, data tools and collaborative support to enable locally led action and strengthen community resilience, so they can continue protecting their forests and territories and confront the climate crisis.

At Cool Earth, we work hand in hand with partner communities in the Amazon, grounded in trust, respect and mutual collaboration. We are a diverse and flexible team that values shared leadership and inclusion. We are looking for people with a strong community focus, a commitment to the land, and a desire to co-create solutions alongside local communities.

About the Role

The Awajún Projects Coordinator will be responsible for leading and managing the implementation of two Local Economies programme projects — cacao and fish farming — which are in their final phase and are being implemented in Awajún communities. Both projects aim to support Indigenous livelihoods while promoting forest conservation. Project coordination involves ongoing collaboration with the associations that now lead the management of these productive projects, as well as with other local stakeholders.

This role is being advertised in Peru.

The gross salary for this position is S/. 6,000.00 per month.

  • Support participants in strengthening governance, financial transparency and autonomous commercial management.
  • Identify and promote partnerships with strategic allies who can provide technical or commercial support to associations once the project concludes.
  • Promote and consolidate technical knowledge transfer so that expertise within productive value chains remains in the communities.

Strategic Development and Sustainability

  • Support the Local Economies Manager in designing and implementing exit and sustainability plans for cacao and fish farming projects in their final phase.
  • Support the development of monitoring frameworks and methodologies that can be handed over to associations for their own quality control and production monitoring.
  • Monitor, analyse and report on the status of assigned projects; identify issues that need to be addressed; and work with the Local Economies Manager to develop solutions, ensuring corrective actions and follow-up.
  • Propose activities that promote environmental conservation, local leadership and improved livelihoods for project participants.

Safeguarding

  • In coordination with the Local Economies Manager and Safeguarding Officers, promote and ensure that the organisation’s safeguarding policies are implemented by the local Cool Earth Peru team and across all project activities.
  • Identify social or environmental safeguarding issues that must be reported to the Programmes Manager and report them in accordance with Cool Earth’s institutional protocols and guidelines.
