Role Summary

  • Handle day-to-day financial management, including our outsourced financial provider's oversight.
  • Work closely with our programmatic workstreams, providing essential support to a leading charity's operations.
  • Have a significant role in financial oversight, budgeting, forecasting and supporting funding bids and reporting, in collaboration with the Development Manager;

Role Requirements

  • Fully qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA, or equivalent).
  • Minimum of five years' experience in finance or accounting.
  • Proficiency in financial software like QuickBooks, Xero, Sage.
  • Excellent organisational and project management skills.
  • Legal right to work in the UK.
  • Experience in a UK charity or NGO's finance function (desirable).
  • Understanding of UK Charities SORP (desirable).
  • Experience with grant management and donor reporting (desirable).

The Degrees Initiative, a UK-based NGO, is seeking a dynamic Finance Manager to join our team. This new role offers an exciting opportunity to work on climate change and scientific capacity building in the Global South.

About the Degrees Initiative: The Degrees Initiative strengthens the capacity of the Global South to evaluate solar radiation modification (SRM), a controversial proposal for reducing some impacts of climate change by reflecting sunlight away from the Earth. Although neutral on the use of SRM, we believe it is crucial that the Global South plays a central role in these discussions. Founded in 2021, our charity has been operational in various forms for over a decade, receiving worldwide coverage and acclaim. Recently, we have doubled our annual budget to 6 million and expanded our team to about 20 staff members.

The Role: As the Finance Manager, you will lead the day-to-day management of our finances, including overseeing our outsourced financial provider. This role involves significant interaction with our programmatic workstreams, providing a fantastic opportunity to enhance the operational capacity of a field-leading charity. You will be responsible for financial oversight, budgeting, forecasting, and supporting funding bids and reporting, in collaboration with the Development Manager.
