Crown Estate Scotland has an exciting opportunity for a Forestry Intern to join our team on a full-time 12 months fixed term basis.
This role will assist with the coordination and implementation of planned forest management activities on the Glenlivet Estate and other locations as required.

About the role
The successful candidate for this role will work on an exciting range of projects and activities including:
- Acting as the local point of contact for Forestry enquires in the absence of the Forest Manager.
- Assisting with the day-to-day management of the forest including monitoring and inspections.
- Working with the Forest Manager and Senior Asset Manager to ensure compliance with the UK Woodland Assurance Standard as it applies to Crown Estate Scotland’s Forest estate.
- Helping maintain productive links with neighbours, tenants, local communities, external partners and contractors.
- Assisting in the maintenance and updating of forest records as required.
- Carrying out plantation surveys for weevil damage, deer/stock fence security and condition, and beat up requirements.
- Undertaking basic forest mensuration tasks including basal area and yield class estimation.
The contractual working location of this role is our Glenlivet office.
The salary will be £24,633.70 per annum. The role also benefits from 25 days’ annual leave, plus 11.5 of public / privilege days. Crown Estate Scotland encourage flexible working and operate a discretionary flexi-time scheme. This role offers participation in the Civil Service pension scheme. Contribution levels for the scheme are currently 5.45% employee contribution at the entry salary for this role whilst Crown Estate Scotland contribution levels are 27.1%.

About You
Candidates for this role should:
- Have a good base knowledge and understanding of forest management practices.
- Have base knowledge of forest mensuration techniques.
- Hold knowledge of GIS systems.
- Be able to access and work in woodland sites, some of which are remote.
- Hold a full clean driving licence as the estate woodlands are scattered and it may be necessary to visit other locations.
- Be willing to work unsocial hours when required.
You will have the following qualities, which are key to success in this role:
- Willingness to learn and develop your knowledge and skills.
- Excellent IT skills across Microsoft 365, especially Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Microsoft Teams, and SharePoint.
- Strong organisational skills with an ability to manage and prioritise a busy workload.
- Good communication skills (verbal and written).
- A self-starter with ability to work on own initiative.
- Be able to build relationships with a wide range of people.
- Be a good team player with a strong sense of self-motivation and the ability to work effectively and actively alone.
- The ability to work to high standards with excellent attention to detail.
