Role Summary

Role Requirements

  • Experience in forestry, conservation, land management or related fields
  • Proficient in project and contract management, including budgeting, tendering, and monitoring multiple workstreams
  • Understanding of woodland ecology, legislative requirements, and safety best practices
  • Leadership or people management experience
  • An HND/Degree in forestry or land management (or equivalent) and a full driving license

The Woodland Trust is the UK’s leading woodland conservation charity, dedicated to the preservation and enhancement of Britain's native woodland heritage. We are currently seeking a Site Manager for the North East region, who will be instrumental in managing several high-profile woodland sites including Low Burnhall, Ragpath Wood, and other locations across north-east England. This role is pivotal in ensuring the effective management and conservation of our woodland sites, which are vital for biodiversity and the community.

The Role: As a Site Manager, you will manage a diverse portfolio of woodland sites in accordance with the UK Woodland Assurance Standard. Your responsibilities will include leading on specifying, tendering, and managing contracts, ensuring high-quality delivery through effective on-site contractor monitoring. You will carry out Woodland Condition Assessments and use these findings to develop, write, and implement long-term management plans. Ensuring site safety and compliance with our health and safety policies will also be crucial. Additionally, you will plan, deliver, and monitor a programme of woodland management work, collaborating with various teams and external partners.

The Candidate: You should have experience in forestry, conservation, land or woodland management, particularly with sites of high conservation value. Strong project and contract management skills are essential, including budgeting, tendering, monitoring, and coordinating multiple workstreams. A background in woodland ecology, legislative requirements, and safe working practices is necessary. Leadership or people-management experience is also required. A HND/Degree in forestry, land management or a related field (or equivalent experience) is needed, along with a full driving licence.
