A bit about Field:

To reach Net Zero, we need to solve big challenges - like how to store energy, solve grid intermittency, and heat our homes without fossil fuels. And, if we’re going to prevent climate catastrophe, we need to do this now. Field will fund, build and run the renewable infrastructure we need to tackle these challenges.

We’re starting with energy storage, which is critical to the future success of renewable energy in Europe and beyond. It allows us to store renewable energy for when it's needed, creating a more reliable, flexible and green grid. We have a portfolio of batteries in the UK and are now expanding into Italy!

We need to massively accelerate the deployment of storage assets. At Field, we will show that batteries are a totally viable part of our energy infrastructure - now, not in some distant future. And, we have ambitious plans to become the defining new clean energy player in Europe over the next few years, gradually expanding beyond batteries into new asset types.

The role:

The Project Developer role is a critical role for scaling Field. In this role, you will be building Field’s greenfield pipeline of battery energy storage system projects. Working together with our General Manager for Italy, you will play a key role sourcing, screening and identifying which greenfield sites we take forward. You will take projects from initial identification and inception through to consenting and EPC handover. The role will involve landowner negotiations and legal agreements, grid connection submissions, design input through to managing external planning and technical consultants to gain content.

Main responsibilities:

  1. Conduct high level site evaluation to establish which sites to progress development work on
    • Undertake high level due diligence of prospective sites (land/lease status, planning and environmental desktop status, grid status, local constraints, key costs)
    • Complete high level site valuations
    • Spot opportunities to resolve problems and enhance returns
    • Understand how site constraints can impact CAPEX and project financials
    • Align pipeline with Field’s broader strategy, fundraising timelines, and resources
  1. Landowner Legal Engagement
    • Visit and engage with Landowners to sell our company and vision for their land.
    • Manage and drive Heads of Terms with Landowners and Agents
    • Manage and drive Option to Lease discussion and documentation with Landowners and Agents
  1. Grid Connection Applications
    • Work with the Grid team for the submission of distribution and transmission connection applications
  1. Design, Planning & Consenting
    • Manage and drive technical, environmental and planning consultants to submit planning applications to gain consent for the developments
    • Work with in-house and consulting design teams to drive successful and operable designs
  1. Effectively prioritise our greenfield development work
    • Understanding of what a good site looks like and how the business should prioritise these factoring in project risks
    • Undertake regular site visits around the UK identifying and screening sites for BESS projects

A bit about you:

  • Enthusiasm and curiosity about the energy storage industry
  • Humble and hands-on team player, necessary in a small company environment
  • Ability to work well with others at all levels, including senior management
  • Ability to multitask, manage time effectively, and plan across multiple initiatives
  • Great communicator that enjoys both upskilling team members and learning from them

Experience and skills we look for:

  • 4+ years in development role ideally within the renewable and energy industry managing a range of projects and technologies
  • Experience of dealing with landowners and land agents for the negotiation of Option and Lease Agreements
  • Strong understanding of the environmental constraints and impact on development
  • Working knowledge of the planning process or an engineering background would be beneficial
