About the role

This role will have responsibility for the successful operation and delivery of Tech Nation’s Global Talent Visa (GTV), offering the opportunity to have a significant personal impact on one of the UK’s primary visa routes for technology employees and entrepreneurs. Working with the administration and policy teams at the Home Office, the GTV Lead will help shape and update important visa policy, oversee the process and experience for visa applicants and assessors, whilst ensuring that a high quality of service is maintained at all times.

A high degree of attention to detail, exceptional execution ability and a desire to seek out opportunitiesand continuously improve is crucial to success in this role. This role requires a genuine passion and interest for the UK tech talent landscape, particularly in relation to international talent and scale-ups. Given the strategic importance of this role, a high degree of personal motivation and commitment to the highest standards is required.

The GTV Lead will be supported by the Head of Visa and have line-management responsibility for the Visa Programme Manager (who is responsible for day-to-day running of the route, such as managing applications, assessors and finance). In addition, the Lead will work closely with other members of the Visa and Tech Nation teams, such as Engagement, Marketing and Commercial teams, to ensure that accurate communications are available in the promotion of the Global Talent route.

General Role, Purpose and Scope

  • Work with the Head of Visa, Home Office, and various advisors to continually develop the route and Eligibility Criteria, ensuring that the route continually meets the needs of the UK tech sector.

  • Manage and develop the processes and systems used by the Visa team in operating the Global Talent route, ensuring that the user experience for applicants, assessors and operations with the Home Office are always of the highest standard.

  • Line-manage the Visa Programme Manager in the day-to-day operation of the route, overseeing the processing of applications, supporting the assessment panel, responses to external enquiries and processing of finances. Sign-off any major changes or external communications handled by the PL.

  • Take direct ownership of external engagement in order to raise awareness of Tech Nation’s visa with key stakeholders and increase the number of high quality applications.

Main Responsibility Areas & Key Tasks:

  • Generate improvements for the Global Talent route’s Eligibility Criteria, Evidential Requirements, Assessment Process and Immigration Rules. Work with the Home Office on applying those changes and ensure that the Guidance and any other external communications are kept up to date.

  • Ensure the effective operation of Visa Systems, making updates to the application platform to reflect changes in the process and guidance. These systems are critical and must be maintained at all times, with any major changes being planned well in advance.

  • Communicate any changes to the Visa route or process, both internally and externally in a timely manner, ensuring that audiences are kept informed and made aware of important notices or upcoming events.

  • Engage with various governmental departments and external stakeholders regarding the Global Talent route

  • Own the promotional and engagement strategy for the visa route, creating and continuously ensuring a consistent narrative to raise awareness across the globe.

Essential skills:

  • Project management skills with exceptional planning and execution ability

  • Systematic, detailed and documented approach to all areas of work

  • Able to write detailed policy, guidance and criteria documentation and capable of creating clear and concise instructions and frameworks.

  • Management and development of critical software based systems

  • You must be a people person, able to work with official government departments engaging with senior stakeholders at the highest level, right through to managing individual applicant queries.

  • Able to oversee and drive the direction of internal marketing and comms

  • Able to conduct public outreach and engagement through excellent communication and interpersonal skills (written, verbal and presentation)

Desired skills:

  • Career expertise in the digital technology sector

  • Knowledge of the UK’s immigration system for digital talent

  • Comfortable delivering keynotes and public addresses to international audiences

  • Capacity to travel nationally and internationally to key markets, as the business needs require.
