Role Summary

The European Space Agency (ESA) is seeking a Lead Payload Engineer for the Sunrise Project within the LEO Satellites Programme Office. This position is based in the Directorate of Connectivity and Secure Communications at ESTEC in Noordwijk, Netherlands.
The role: As a Lead Payload Engineer, you will be responsible for all payload development and procurement aspects of the assigned project. You will act as the focal point and day-to-day interface with the satellite operator and industrial prime contractor. Under the leadership and authority of management, you will make decisions on behalf of the ESA Partnership Project. Your responsibilities will include the design, development, qualification, on-ground verification, and in-orbit validation of the satellite payload, ensuring it meets mission requirements and performance goals within schedule and budget constraints.
Job requirements: The ideal candidate will have experience in payload design, development, and verification. Knowledge of ESA procurement, contract negotiation, and risk management is essential. You should also be familiar with ESA processes, including industrial development, verification, procurement, and risk management. Experience with telecom satellite operators and 5G payloads for constellations is highly desirable. A master's degree in a relevant engineering discipline is required.
