About Breakthrough
Breakthrough is a social enterprise that trains and selects exceptional prison leavers and provides them with expert training, to bring diverse, inspiring talent to businesses through our fully-supported apprenticeships. We transform lives and communities through the impact we have on the individuals and businesses we work with and through reducing reoffending. We run two main programmes: a pre-apprenticeship course in prison and the community followed by digital apprenticeships. The objective of the pre-apprenticeship programme is to get our Associates ready and excited for the world of work and to develop the soft skills that all careers value alongside the specific technical skills that are required for the apprenticeship. The programme is also an opportunity for our employers to get to know the students better and kick off the recruitment process.
We are in a rapid growth phase. As a team, we are ambitious and driven. We are just as passionate about our people as the social impact we aim to have. We invest in learning and development and are flexible around responsibilities to suit an individual’s growth plan. We want someone to grow with us.
The role: Programme Facilitator
We are looking for an experienced programme facilitator who can work across multiple programmes, including those in prison. The ideal candidate for this role will be an excellent facilitator, someone with great energy and who is able to manage, potentially, to work across programmes. This cross-programme role allows the Breakthrough teams to share learnings and insights and also to build flexibility into the team. A key element of this position is to provide a fantastic learning experience for our Associates (the name for people who participate in our programme) and to provide a professional experience for our volunteers and employers who we partner with to deliver the programme. This programme facilitator will work alongside other programme delivery positions; depending on the person’s experience and/or interests we will decide on the additional core responsibility this person will take on.
Breakthrough is a dynamic organisation where we support everyone to build their areas of expertise and interest. Therefore, we keep the hierarchy as flat as possible. This Programme Facilitator role is part of a wider Programme team - below is an overview of that team and high level responsibility split. As a growing organisation, we will flex some elements of this depending on who we secure for the role.
Key Programme Facilitator responsibilities include:
- Facilitating sessions with our Associates around soft skills which can include confidence, presenting, problem solving and many others
- Co-facilitating technical sessions with our technical experts
- Supporting the design and enhancement of our programme sessions
- Working across programmes and teams, at times, to share best practice and learnings across teams
- Coaching and providing 1-2-1 support with the men
- Facilitating sessions to support the students to try their new tech knowledge. There is no expectation for this position to have technical knowledge, but the successful candidate will need to guide students through technical projects which have been set by the experts.
- Depending on role and expertise this role could be expanded to include leadership activities and working on the overall business strategy
The ideal candidate will:
- Be an excellent facilitator and able to engage with people from different backgrounds and and who have different communication/learning styles
- Have experience of organising and facilitating programmes (at least two programmes)
- Have excellent planning and organisational skills
- Be tech literate and able to leverage technology to enhance their work
- Have excellent organisational and communication skills
- Be ambitious and bring energy and innovation to each element of the role
- Be passionate about driving equality in business and strongly believe in the vision of Breakthrough
