Hi, we’re Octopus MoneyCoach and we’re on a mission to transform 1 million lives by making it easy and affordable to get help with your money. Our accredited money coaches work with clients all over the UK to explore their life goals and show how they can make those goals achievable.

Every month, we train people from a wide range of backgrounds to become self-employed money coaches. Once accredited, we’ll introduce you to potential clients from UK workplaces, who will pay you an annual fee for your service. This training programme is free for successful applicants.

It has been accredited by the London Institute of Banking and Finance as well as the Initiative for Financial Wellbeing.

Who this is for

If you’re open to an exciting new self-employed career helping people with their money, this might be for you.

Our coaches are former teachers, team leaders, former business owners, retired financial professionals, ex-accountants, ex-Army officers and parents who have taken a career break and want work that fits around childcare.

So if you’re excited by the idea of more flexible work, being your own boss and transforming lives, you’re in the right place!

There are no special qualifications needed and the training programme is free – but there are a few requirements. You’ll need to:

Have an interest in personal finance
Have at least 5 years work experience
Be a UK resident
Be open to working on a self-employed basis (and excited about being your own boss)
Be able to dedicate the time to the training programme, which requires availability during working hours (it’s usually tough to do alongside a full time job)
Demonstrate a commitment to becoming a self-employed financial coach – including at least 20 (daytime) hours across a typical week

How training works

Our training programme will cover everything you need to know to become a financial coach using a combination of written guides, videos and webinars.

There are modules on everything from the financial fundamentals you’ll need, to guides on delivering the Octopus MoneyCoach service and using our software.

You’ll also get the support of a coach mentor and our entire coach community.

We have two programmes available:

Fast Track Training (In Person): This is a 2-week intensive course that will be held in person in London.
Standard Training (Remote): This is our standard 6-week course that is done remotely, with a mix of self-guided learning and live daytime masterclasses (which you’ll need to dial in for).
