Role Summary

  • Act as the primary scientific advisor on Mars Science to top-level leaders.
  • Don the role of a decision-maker in defining scientific priorities and drawing up work plans.
  • Take the lead in the selection of scientific activities and equipment for missions.
  • Manage science teams to facilitate Mars and Beyond Science ventures.
  • Prepare and distribute science data products, while engaging with the larger scientific circle and ESA's science advisory network.

Role Requirements

  • PhD in a related field and substantial experience in space-related scientific research.
  • Prior leadership tasks in significant projects or missions.
  • Adept at managing scientific budgets and familiarity with international collaborations.
  • Exceptional leadership and communication skills.

The role: As the Mars and Beyond Science Team Leader, you will serve as the primary scientific advisor on Mars Science to the Chief Exploration Scientist and the Mars and Beyond Projects Group Leader. Your responsibilities will include defining scientific priorities and implementation plans, leading the selection of scientific activities and payloads for missions, and managing science teams to support Mars and Beyond Science activities. Additionally, you will handle the preparation and dissemination of science data products and engage with the science community and ESA's science advisory structure.

Job requirements: Candidates must hold a PhD in a relevant field and have an extensive record in space-related scientific research, including leadership roles in major projects or missions. Experience in managing scientific budgets, familiarity with international collaborations, and strong leadership and communication skills are essential.
