Role Summary

  • Working as a Graduate Trainee in the GNC, AOCS, and Pointing Division in the Electrical Department.
  • The main focus is on the characterization of AOCS & GNC Sensors.
  • Involvement in the maintenance or enhancement of the GNC, AOCS & Pointing Laboratory facilities and processing large data-sets from ground calibrations or in-flight data.

Role Requirements

  • Completion or near completion of master's degree in Electronics, Mechatronics, or Control Engineering.
  • Good awareness of electronic design and software coding (Python, Matlab, and Labview).
  • Hands-on laboratory or test experience is preferred.
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills are required.
  • Ability to work in a multicultural environment.

Our team and mission at the European Space Agency (ESA) involve more than 40 members dedicated to providing project support in the field of Guidance, Navigation and Control (GNC), Attitude and Orbit Control Systems (AOCS), and Pointing engineering. This includes conceptual design studies for future missions, system analysis, and modeling for current and future missions across various ESA Directorates such as Exploration, Space Transportation, Earth Observation, Science, Telecommunication, and Navigation.

The role: As a Graduate Trainee, you will be part of the GNC, AOCS, and Pointing Division in the Electrical Department. Your primary focus will be on the characterization of AOCS & GNC Sensors. This includes performance characterization of new Inertial Sensors (Gyroscopes & Accelerometers), robustness tests of Star Trackers, Cameras, and their processing electronics. You will also be involved in the maintenance or enhancement of the GNC, AOCS & Pointing Laboratory facilities and processing large data-sets from ground calibrations or in-flight data.

Job requirements: You should have completed or be in the final year of your master's degree in Electronics, Mechatronics, or Control Engineering. A good awareness of electronic design and software coding (Python, Matlab, and Labview) is essential. Hands-on laboratory or test experience would be an asset. You should also possess good interpersonal and communication skills and be able to work in a multicultural environment.
