The European Space Agency (ESA) is a leading authority in global space science, conducting deep exploration in the realms of heliophysics, planetary science, astrophysics, and fundamental physics. Serving within ESA's Directorate of Science, the Science Operations Department is responsible for monitoring space missions from their initial study phase up to their end of operations. As the instated Mission Manager, your role will encompass the responsibility of managing all operations related to exploiting the mission and post-operation phases abiding by programmatic and financial norms. This comprises:
- Preparing and implementing budget and contractual plans
- Coordinating tasks throughout the ESA divisions
- Managing the mission's science operations team and centre
- Overseeing the science ground segment and cooperating centres to ensure optimized scientific return
. Eligible candidates must hold experience in project and technical management, and science operations, preferably within ESA missions. Masters degree holders in a relevant field and individuals with strong leadership, problem-solving, and organizational skills are highly recommended to apply.

The Science Operations Department within ESA's Directorate of Science is dedicated to overseeing space missions from study to end of operations. We develop science operation systems, operate missions in space, and manage data archiving and curation beyond operations. The role: As a Mission Manager, you will be responsible for managing all operational aspects of the mission's exploitation and post-operations phases within programmatic and financial constraints. This includes preparing and implementing budget and contractual plans, coordinating tasks across ESA divisions, and managing the mission's science operations team and centre. You will also oversee the science ground segment and cooperating centres to ensure maximum scientific return. Additionally, you will liaise with various programmatic, controlling, technical, and scientific interfaces to ensure the scientific productivity of the mission.
Job requirements: The position requires experience in project and technical management, managing multiple interfaces, and science operations, preferably within ESA missions. A master's degree in a relevant field is required, with a PhD or equivalent in physics, space science, or a related field considered an asset. Strong leadership, problem-solving, and organizational skills are essential.
